It's a shame that he was transformed into an attacking midfielder, I enjoyed Cesc 2006-2008 more than any of his later forms.

We were a lot better off in 2006 and in 2008, Biggus. 2 finals and 4 points off winning the league compared to...one final after that and generally being miles off the league.

@Biggs Right you are. John McCarthy was the inventor of the Lisp programming language, comes up a fair bit in my professional life.

Regarding the irrelevance of relative performance in trophyless seasons, it may be true but you do keep banging on about our improved football last season, though don't you?

Nostalgia is fantastic though. In years to come we (even Biggus i suspect) will remember the Wenger years favourably in their entirety (Almunia, Squillaci and all) rather than nit-picking. Just as most Gooners just consider Bertie Mee and GG's eras as successes yet at the time i am sure they had a lot of detractors as there were periods when we were rubbish.
