The whole point of keeping him is that he plays for them of course. With his ban they have plenty of time to sort it all out after the window slams shut.
I have to say, I totally respect Liverpool's stance here, and I hope they follow through. There is too much player power in the game today. Players are quick to sign new contracts with better wages, but at the same time stoop to new lows in getting out of their contracts when they for some reason are not happy with them.
I'd have the same stance if he were going to City or Chelsea. He'd obviously be a negative influence in the dressing room and the stories about Rodgers' betrayal will hurt Liverpool when they are negotiating contracts with their other better players. If they can't get top four which I don't see them getting, then, the whole gamble fill fall flat because they'll lose him for at least 10-15 million lesser than what they can get from this window.
But, he'll massively strengthen us if he moves here. Our squad won't be a title-winning one without other additions, but, our first team surely would be as good as anyone else in England. So, there is absolutely no question about not wanting him here.
