Arsenal's reserve team and youth players

There was an article in my local paper this morning about Kristoffer Olsson, a 15-year-old midfielder, trialling with Arsenal for the second time. He's supposed to be very promising. He had a trial with Chelsea too at the age of 13.

According to soccernet we sold Barazite. Is this so? Disappointing if this is indeed the case.

Almost makes you not want to watch the match against Barnet anymore. I know it's not any different at other top clubs, but it's frustrating to see how many of our academy's 'stars' are offloaded on the cheap before they've been given any chance on the first team.

I'm not really bothered about Barazite or anybody else we've sold in the past but i am m worried we might offload some of the youngsters we have now and live to regret it. Would hate to see somebody like Lansbury or JET leave and turn into excellent players. Its probably inevitable given how many top youngsters we have that at least one will leave and prove a real success elsewhere.

Barazite was never good enough. He had to impress in a trial for Austria Vienna just to win a contract there, he will never be a top player, despite some good technical ability.

Technically he was good, but he was also really unfit and pretty slow.

I really used to rate him, pretty much until I watched him at Derby.

I think Barazite could do fairly well in a lower tempo league. If a team was built around him as a playmaker, I'm sure he could be a star for a bottom half italian side.

Really, they can't all make it. There's only so many slots available. Out of every season's crop, only 2-3 might make it.

We're clearly going to lose a couple of youngsters in the central midfield area who are very highly rated, over the next few years.

We've got the likes of Coquelin, Frimpong, Lansbury, Ramsey coming through, with others like Aneke only just behind them. And on top of that there's Craig Eastmond.

Bet in 2 years time, only Ramsey and Aneke are definitely around. Might see some Frimpong, but we will likely see the rest sent packing. This assumes we aren't selling off our stars, of course.

Obviously, but when you follow the progress of academy players you become emotionally attached to them to the extent that - when they're gone - it's as if a whole lineage of prospective success with the club vanished.

It's similar to looking at renders of projects that never came through. You know they weren't viable most of them, but regardless of what was built instead, it still feels like a loss.

Can't help feeling all of those players, more or less have what it takes to crack the Premier League even if it's not with us.

i was looking at an issue of espn the magazine and there was a photo of the youth keeper martinez making a save against chelsea youth at the bridge last month. nice big one page spread.

we're going to demand technical excellence and passing ability all through midfield, so i don't care how good they think they are in attack - they won't be better than fabregas, wilshere, nasri, etc, so whichever of those players takes to a more defensive role the best will make it to the first team. i guess i'm thinking of aneke when i say that.

Haven't seen enough of Aneke to know for sure with him, but otherwise the only one I'm skeptical about is Eastmond.

Lansbury, to me, looks like the sort of player we're going to have no choice but to release within the next year or two, but certainly regret at some point over the next few years as well. I wonder if he'll get a chance next season, with Denilson and Rosicky finally getting the boot (here's hoping), but by then we could also have Ramsey, Coquelin and Frimpong pushing hard as well for an already crowded midfield.

Eastmond's got a good head on his shoulders, I suppose you could say he's physically unexceptional - a bit slight - but I think he's probably got a future somewhere.

The thing is, he's nothing too special from a technical perspective, and unless he gets a late growth-spurt (not impossible, at all), you can see the league's general predilection for lumpish defensive midfielders counting against him.

I don't think he'll make it here, that's one thing I'm fairly sure of, but his Arsenal credentials will probably be enough to get him a move to a top flight club when he does move on. Probably the sort of player a newly promoted side might take a flyer on. At that point, it will be interesting to see how he gets on.

I really don't see Denilson and Rosicky staying on unless they really don't mind playing bit part roles- real bit part ones that involve being subs for both league and cup matches, hardly ever starting. Diaby has to make it as Song's backup or he has to move on.

That means the young midfielders Ramsey, Lansbury and co have all the chance to step up and make it.

Ramsey is the only one that needs to be accomodated; the rest are much of a muchness.
