the main worry i have about wenger leaving is the impact it could have on us finding and bringing in top prospects like those mentioned. hopefully our model and network is self-sustaining

There was an old quote from one of our top scouts saying Wenger can tell more about a player in a half hour than our scouts can over several games.

Last big time player we bought was Dennis Bergkamp, and that was before Wenger.

Only reason we managed to sign Campbell was because of Wenger. He would have gone to United otherwise.

I know Wenger has his reputation. It is bound to be rather tarnished though these days after 7 trophyless years. I think it matters more these days that we have a reputation for giving young players a shot.

I haven't disagreed. I'm pretty sure that was what Dules was talking about too. Young players move here because they'll get a proper chance if they're good enough, and a good education that will benefit their career in the worst case. That reputation is because of Wenger, though. Ramsey, for instance, chose Arsenal over United because he knew he would develop and play.

Just seen the highlight, not good at finishing , olsson? Is he?! other than that I'm pretty much impressed. Looks like he played at cm in that game. Think he's better than Toral,Gnabry etc from what I've seen.

To be fair though, I think Ferguson gives young players a better offering. 1

He has a club with a deeply engrained culture of winning. 2
He gives young players a chance. Look at United, and most weekends you will have several of De Gaea, Evans, De Silva twins, Jones, and others.
You get to develop next to a clutch of excellent players and impressive veterans.
You make more money.

If I'm a good young player, I choose United easily. Ramsey would have been starting ahead of Carrick and Anderson.

If I'm a good young player, I choose United easily. Ramsey would have been starting ahead of Carrick and Anderson.

Only this season has he gave a chance to jones welbeck etc and thats only because of massive injuries, otherwise he would slowly bring them in. If you want to play and show what you can do go to arsenal. If you want to win but not play so much go to manu.

Most young players would disagree. Up until very recently no one under 30 was given a shot at United, and now they're stocked up on young talent for half a decade.

The club policy for the last 3 or 4 years has been to buy young so that they can reap the transfer value or sell on at a decent price in the future. This is part of why they have not made a concerted effort to go after people like Sneijder and others. They have one of the best thought out transfer policies in Europe, apart from the aversion to bringing in central midfield quality.

I'm not talking about transfer policies, I'm talking about attracting young players.

Ferguson has changed his approach in the last couple of seasons. Man U have previously NOT been recognized for giving young players a chance. Fungus seems to have somewhat changed that policy. It coincides with everyone being made aware of their massive debts! Go figure...
