I'm with Capi here on this. No need to panic with Suarez as he can't play a league game for us until oct anyway, plenty of time to sort out another bid and I reckon movement will happen after the fener game at the grove. More important now is to get deals done on players who can actually play for us as soon as they are signed.

Suarez is a "special" case (in more ways than one some would say).
He can't actually play the first six games so the impetus to capture him early is not so strong not that it ever was with Wenger where a bargain was more crucial.
But Wengers reflex is to be cautious and conservative especially I'd imagine with the sums involved, I just don't think he has the wherewithal to close out a deal such as this.

I reckon we need too much overall improvement to throw all our eggs in the Suarez basket. I'm not sure he alone would be enough to truly bring us up a level, unfortunately.

Whether the club are serious or not is beside the point, with specific regard to Suarez, £40,000,001 isn't a derisory bid.

You couldn't call it derisory, it's just about double what Liverpool originally paid and the extra 1 was apparently supposed to trigger a clause of some description. Our guys want him, but probably expected Liverpool to be fold more easily than they have.

It's not a derisory bid unless you're a precious nancy that doesn't like how business works. Unfortunately for us, that's exactly what Liverpool are. No one in their right mind would bid an extra 2m than they have to in order to trigger a clause just to be polite, if you don't like the one pound don't insert ridiculous clauses into your employees contracts.
