Really? Didn't think there was much expectation of a big signing in the winter. No real links apart from a David Villa deal which I don't think would classify as a big signing. More just papering over the cracks. We need to stop the revolving door of players and look for players for the longer term.
The higher expectation now isn't just driven by Gazidis' words, but this persistent 'we've moved up a level financially', '4th isn't good enough', 'we've seen through the difficult period' stuff that he has twice come out with in a few weeks has helped to cement our optimistic feeling. Other contributing factors are the news of the Puma deals, bigger TV revenues with the BT buyout, getting rid of the shitsters on decent wages, and we don't look like selling any of our good players. All those things put together has convinced many of us (or at least myself) that we'll be competitive in the transfer market. We've seen Man Utd, Liverpool, Chelsea and Man City make some strides with £10m+ buys, but obviously it's still very early.
