Indeed, while I'm delighted we won the game and might yet secure 4th place, I'm not feeling any real sense of achievement, unless of course it's not letting Spurs fans get the privilege of finishing above us.

Interesting thing about this season is that after we've clawed our way back, Spurs have kept pace with us and pushed us on. We've lifted under pressure.

I'd love to see our squad with a couple of decent additions be able to glue itself to the leaders and get some motivation from that - we were blown away in two months this season.

Well that's the hard part isn't it, how do players get motivated for the same old same.......

We've started far, far too slow in the league for two seasons now. Think that has to be put down to two summers of having to rethink our entire game plan thanks to departures, so with any luck that factor will be mitigated in 13-14.

Well over the last 8 years we've tried changing everything except one thing.

Biggs, while your tunnel vision on rare occasion produces a commendable clarity of insight, I'm talking about how we've started the season the last two years, and not inviting another reminder of the bête noire that haunts you sleeping and waking.

If you've been watching Arsenal during the whole of the trophyless period you'll know that on several occasions we've had a great start to the season and faded as we went on, rather than the opposite pattern that has persisted in 11-12 and 12-13.

are we sure it's not simply a question of strength of schedule? we seemed to have a relatively easier run-in this year.

and some of the dip in seasons past seemed to be a psychological result of getting knocked out of cups in feb/mar, or losing players like fabregas and van persie to injury.

I think as the season wears on the difficulty of the ties and injuries tend to be major factors, whereas at the start of the season the way the side gels is pretty important.

We looked a mess when Cesc and Nasri left in one summer because we were so used to those guys retaining possession and helping us sustain pressure in the final third that we'd built our game around it.

Likewise this year when we could barely score a goal out the gate with Van Persie gone ...

We were out of everything even earlier this year so that eased our fixture list, also we don't have to worry about the ACN in Jan/Feb anymore.
