I don't know what you mean.

I do know that there was an idea that we paid a new signings wages (or the first year of wages) from our cash reserves/transfer budget. But i'm fairly certain that at root that idea came from some confused blogger or journalist. Doesn't make any sense to roll the two together in your financial model.

I agree, and understand the difference between capex and ongoing spending and that they're separated in corporate budgets.

However, the club did at one time make claims about spending that bundled the two together, I'm fairly sure—think it was during the period when journalists and forum posters used to claim that some proportion of our revenue was 'ring fenced' and set aside to be spent on the footballing side, as one of the conditions of our loans for the stadium. Would've been about 2007-09.

There was a theory that we had to spend some proportion (30%? 70%?) on football stuff, including wages, signings, support staff and extensions to Colney etc.

I can't be arsed to hunt down a link, I'm afraid, but someone else may be able to correct me if I'm wrong.

In any case, I wouldn't be too surprised if the figure quoted, if it has merit at all, included any positive deltas to our wage outgoings per season.

Ok, i gets ya.

Don't think the quoted figure has much merit. The club have said loads of times that we don't have that sort of specific budget, rather that we judge what we can afford on a case by case basis.

based on his official twitter, pires seems to want dein back with wenger. possibly henry if rumours are to be believed. i do think we could use a football man in the executive suite. gill just quit united, can we get him?

Kroenke was at the Bayern game and the routine board meeting has been in the diary for weeks, to coincide with his trip from the United States. The club have roughly £70m in the bank, most of which is available to Wenger and the Barcelona striker David Villa will be among his targets.

The club's financial position is strong and it should remain so even if the team do not qualify for the Champions League. The impact of the new shirt sponsorship arrangement with Emirates Airlines, which is worth £150m over five years, will begin to be felt this summer while the club is in negotiations over a lucrative kit deal, as its sponsorship with Nike is set to end next year. A mixture of yesterday's news and unsupported hearsay.

On SBS World News last night they reported on the Bayern match and said, verbatim, that "Wenger's long term position is now under threat" as if there were any evidence whatsoever that is the case. :o

😆 They will offer to renew Wengers contract of course we all know that, the important thing will be what Wenger decides.
If he does renew and Vieira replaces Mancini at Man City (as some are suggesting) I might go and support them instead.

i gave up on sbs football coverage a long time ago. for their live cl coverage, they commentate from inside their studio instead of using a commentary feed from the stadium. it sounds appalling

THis is why I have no interest in player comings or goings, money coming in or new sponsorship deals, . AFAIAC Wenger is burnt out, not only that I also beleive he wasted the financial benefits of the Emirates move. I don't trust him with signings or to spend any future windfalls, even if he buys good players (and let's face it he has bought good players in the past) I have lost all faith in his ability as a manager to get the best out of them.

Nothing changes until Wenger goes, anything else is just muddling on, papering over the cracks. We Identified him as the problem about 5-6 years ago, he is still THE problem, not the no1 problem, the only problem, all other issues are merely challenges.
