For cheap, he provides good depth in the defensive midfield role. If he's in place of, say, Bender, then absolutely not. If Wenger tossed Coquelin and Diaby and brought in Barry and Bender, we'd be better off.
Forget about Bender forget about Fellani Wenger will go for the cheapest makeshift make weight there is out there- You know it.

Bazza would be a good backup.
He's a good player, but he'd need to take a pay cut.
If he was coming for £3m and was willing to take a short contract at around 50k it wouldn't be a bad move. We all know Arteta is starting to need more breaks so having another experience PL midfielder like Barry would be a reasonable move. The problem is we all want someone better who can come in and start most games.

If Jack is moved further up the pitch that only leaves Ramsey and Arteta as candidates for the two deeper positions. So getting Barry in wouldn't be such a bad idea as long as we also bring in a top quality player in midfield.
We should just sign one really good midfielder. Then focus pre season on hammering into Wilshere's head how to not completely fuck over his midfield partners.
