January is a mirage. If you're going to criticize Wenger for something criticize him for not buying top quality attackers/mids in the summer to help Ozil out. Or how we were blitzed when playing the big teams due to our tactics sucking and having a horrible injury problem.

The January window is stupid, unnecessary, and hurts the integrity of the game. Plus usually no good players are available. It should be only used for emergencies like when Gibbs went down and we got adequate cover in Monreal. Who could we have bought that wasn't cup tied or panic-buy dross? Or even available? Maybe Cabaye but we'd have been blown out by the team from his homeland.

Winning a major trophy and finish in the CL places will always constitute a good season for me. Yes, it is very disappointing how we bottled it from February and onward, but that doesn't change the end result for me.

For those, like me, saying this is a good season - does that mean you're ok with Wenger for another year? If so, under what terms?

You can have a good year and still strive to do better. Chelsea (I know....) have highlighted this well in that they've been winning trophies regularly but asking more of their managers than that.

I'm frustrated by the prevalence of this assertion that nothing useful could've been done in January.

We didn't necessarily need a world class striker or anything in January, perhaps we just needed a player anywhere in the front three. We needed some sort of boost.

Leaving aside what might have been possible if we'd actually stepped up other inquiries, second rank forwards such as Berbatov, Jelavic, Mitroglou and Defoe all moved in January. None of them sure things, but all scorers.

With Giroud totally out of sorts, we lost Walcott making no effort to replace him beyond wheeling Bendtner out—it was a strong signal not to bother with the league. Disappointing stuff.

None of Berbatov, Jelavic, Mitroglou and Defoe would have changed our season. If those were our options then Wenger did well to wait (as long as he spends this summer). We almost have all our useless mediocre players collecting £50k/week a week off the wage bill, no reason to put those type of players on it again.

That attitude is why Wenger fails.

Any one of those players (well, Berbatov say) and different tactics for those tough away ties could've changed our season. But I'm not telling you those specific players were the ideal recruits, just that it's clear there were players of some sort out there but we couldn't be bothered.

People might feel differently in five years time if we haven't come any closer than we did this season.

There's a difference between saying something useful could have been done in January and saying that purchasing a few players would have immediately ensured better results against Southampton, Liverpool and subsequently United.
Because those are the games where the new signings would have been expected to slot right in and make a difference.
I've seen people argue on one hand that players need Time to gel and settle and yet this argument's fired out the window when people want to argue that anyone we signed in January would be somehow immune to this.

Well speaking for myself, my anger was because there were signs that Wenger was starting to change at last, the Ozil signing, a more pragmatic style, more mature players, a tougher resilience, cutting out a lot of the deadwood created an impact on the pitch.
Anyone who knows about the PL knows what happens after Christmas, the fixture pile ups the hard weather the injuries...
As January wore on it became the obvious that nothing had changed the Kallstrom signing encapsulated Wengers transfer policy and ambition for this club.
Then of course the injuries struck the loss of form loss of confidence the return to tippy tappy pussyball......
I think I'm more angry with myself for allowing myself to dare to hope that Wenger might have at last started to listen more to Bould than fucking Primorac, now the only thing that I'm looking forward to is the day when he's gone from our club.

You're entitled to think that, but Giroud is better than all those players you mentioned and he is the weakest link in our XI. No way does Berbatov make up the 8 points we would likely need to win the PL this season.

Chelsea needed a striker in January too and nothing materialized. They are closer to the title than we are and have unlimited money but still didn't sign anybody.

Chelsea were trying to improve on Eto'o, Torres and Ba. We have Giroud.

None of whome are good enough either, don't think the fact that we arguably have a striker that's worse will make them feel much better.

Our results against the minions have been very good, its those six pointers against our biggest rivals that have killed us, the nature and size of the defeats were tactical blunders, as someone said not even teams with a lot weaker squads than us get beaten like that.

Even if Chelsea had a marginally better strike force, they were obviously a striker away from the title in January. Instead of panic buying some nobody who wasn't better than what he had, Mourinho will be buying Diego Costa in the summer. That's the correct way to address the problem.

Comparing Chelsea's needs to ours last January is frankly laughable. First of all, they have 3 strikers all better than Giroud, and they all bring different qualities to the table. Secondly, we knew that Walcott was out for the season, and we know he is unique in this squad with the qualities he brings to the table. Wenger chose to ignore that. Chelsea spent £20m on a player in an area Moron felt they were weak, and they are certainly better off for it. Thirdly, Chelsea's wealth of front line players means they can easily choose from more creative options to more direct options, whereas we were left with players who all want the ball to feet.
