There are plenty of players who would move if we offered decent money. It's just a question of how much you want to spend on someone who might not be of much use beyond this season. Wenger's - and Arsenal's - conclusion is that they would rather not spend unless they can find the right player who works both as a short-time squad improvement and has designs to become a long-term starter. That's the long and short of it.

That's not our problem though. We've needed a proper first-choice striker for two years now. There has been plenty of time to sign one. It would be a terrible sin to waste the good work we've done so far this season by insisting that half a striker is enough to win Premier League. In all likelihood it's not, and come march we'll all realise it when the going gets really tough and the goals dry up.

I don't think there is any pressure on the club to take financial risks in order to win the title. Most of the fans will be reasonably happy with a 'brave' 3rd place finish after years of scraping for CL place.

What would you call it then? We look very unlikely to beat Man City to the league title as squads are now, we are knocked out of the Mickey Mouse cup, we are very, very unlikely to go past the next round in the CL. That leaves the FA Cup. I'd say that is close enough to what qs is saying.

I disagree. Most fans see this as our best opportunity to win something in years. To not learn from previous seasons and coming up short due to lack of depth will be hugely frustrating

That's a ridiculously pessimistic way of looking at it and I really don't see how we look 'very unlikely' to beat City to the title this season, we have been top of the league literally all season with our 2 main goal scoring threats (Poldi/Theo) not even playing for nearly all of that time and we don't look on the brink of imploding any time soon.

I look at it like this, we finished 2013 with the most points in the year without Özil for over half of that time and with a poorer version Giroud as our main striker I have complete faith in the squad as it is now to put together a very strong title challenge, if we add a good striker or a goal scoring winger then all the better.

No one gives a shit about the COCup anyways so I don't see the need to bring that up. The Champions League tie with Bayern is something I'm really looking forward to, it's gonna be a great match against the best team in Europe and I think we have a decent chance of getting through.

You may choose to look at it as being on the brink of another failure of a season (which is even arguable that that's what the last 8 years have been tbh), I choose to look at it as being on the verge of greatness and we really are.

Reinforcements or no reinforcements, I really can't see us finishing more than 5-7 points off first. Would take long term injuries to players like Özil, Giroud, and Mertesacker.

Yes but finishing 5-7 points off first isn't good enough.

Fucking go for it Wenger. Don't waste another season. Even if we get a world class striker in the summer there's no likelihood we'll be in this position again mid-January next year.
