When did Arsene ever change his ways to fit a player he just signed? Did it with Cesc and haven't gone back since and I can't see us doing it for a player bought in the last dash for player that we are on now.

He's not really changing his ways though, is he? Wenger's always preferred the more rounded players to be forwards. If anything signing Giroud last summer and playing him as a target man shows Wenger being willing to change the way we played for the benefit of the new guy.

Playing Giroud as a target man is no different to playing Arteta in front of the back 4. Its not a change in plan its a change in personnel, Giroud is lobbed in to play in a free flowing attacking set up and that what he is doing he isn't going in for 20 headers a game and he isn't holding up the ball. Wenger doesn't change he just throws people in at the deep end and sees what sticks.

I would have taken Michu at the very start of the summer to be honest, as I had no faith in landing a truly elite forward. If the management had been in the least bit serious about signing serious players back in June, then we could have certainly acquired a better player, but in fairness to Michu he is physically stronger and has better quality on the ball than Giroud. On top of that, I really do not think there are any clearly better forwards at a club that would do business. The season has started and normal clubs aren´t going to be willing to sell their top players.

I´d make do with Michu for this season, and have him rotate with Giroud at point and Cazorla at 10, then next season we could (should) get rid of Olivier and try again for Suarez with Michu playing behind and perhaps Cazorla on the wing.

Thats the thing. If we get Michu it doesn't stop us going after a top class striker in the future as Michu is a good number 10 too.

Arteta didn't go into the defensive role immediately and he's done well there! And we've definitely changed the way we play to suit that big lump. For our start our wingers initially were Podolski and Walcott, Wenger had never gone for two direct players on both wings before.

Anyway, the way we've play has changed unrecognisably over the past two seasons. To compensate for the shit in the squad. The second half of last season was essentially an exercise in pragmatism to get us over the line. That's something we don't usually do.
