Hehheh its our first instinctive reaction whenever a mediocre French player is been scouted out by our mediocre French ex-player.
We fear the worst.

It'll feel like a sideways signing if it does happen.
Probably be a least a season before we'd see whether or not he's really got what it takes to become a top player for us.

Looks a good player from the tube.

I've no time for people who write off players they've never seen. Same lot who criticise cos we never signed Benteke or Michu.

I've read some good stuff about him, but also that he's liable to go missing for large periods. No doubt Wenger will improve him, but at what cost?

Don't think this deal is going to go through at all.

Yep. Looks like he can both spot and time a pass well.

If you don't watch even UEFA Cup games involving English clubs, then...

I'm surprised anyone would even post in this forum that doesn't.

I know you've not seen enough of him to make any sort of decent appraisal, so why bother?

Wasn't Koscielny scouted by Giles?

I've seen enough of him to form the same impression that's now coming from every French pundit that's watched him semi-regularly, so why not?

Because i know you've not seen enough of him to make any sort of decent appraisal.

How come this is just directed at people writing him off?
Does the same not apply to people recommending him based on five minutes of youtube?

My concern is that the fans who've watched him all season aren't blown away by him or desperate for him to stay.

And I know I've watched more of him than others.

So cheers.

You said you dont now much about him and you've watched Lyon a couple of times this season (presumably against Spurs) and he didn't stand out. And for the record he played a grand total of 95 minutes against Spurs over two legs.

So sorry to say, on the matter of whether he's a good player or not, you have nothing to add. I'm not trying to get on your case or be confrontational, but those are the facts.

Fair enough.

And he wasn't exactly a roaring success in his first two seasons was he?
He's only starting to come good now then he'll be sold.
A pattern we've seen before, thats why I'm not too down on Giroud or ever Gervais who I expect after being given a long training in our first team will turn into decent players (and be sold).
This is the way things are........

He was very good last season - better than this year

So why are you even in any thread, saying anything, about any player who plays outside the premier league? The most I reckon any UK fan watches of any team outside the PL is maybe 4-5 games a season. In fact, I'd be staggered if anyone here had sat through more than 6-7 Aston Villa games this season working out exactly how great / awful Benteke is.

I've watched Grenier maybe 4-5 times this year. Granted, that's nowhere near as much as I obsessively pore over every minute every Arsenal player plays, but it's enough to make an impression, and I reckon form an opinion too. Fair enough, it's not much, but given that it now seems to chime with what every L1 pundit seems to say about him as well, and the Lyon fans that YVM seems to have found, I'll stick to it thanks.

Kos was only really iffy in his first season and just for a brief period last season.
He won't be sold anytime soon.
No big money in defenders.
I actually think Gervinho might be sold to a French club this summer.

I say very little about players I've not seen plenty of. As I've said, to do otherwise is stupid IMHO.

I don't have a problem with L1 pundits or Lyon fans' opinions.

But if you've watched Grenier 4-5 times this season I don't know what has so offended you about my original statement- that I have no time for the opinions of people who haven't seen the player? Clearly doesn't apply to you. Source of confusion on my part was that you said yesterday you knew very little about Grenier and had only seen him a couple of times (which I assumed to be the Europa League tie against Spurs when he came on as a very late sub in one of the games).

Sorry Tim, took it too personally. That's why I deleted my last post, which sounded pretty asinine.

I'm probably unduly harsh on him & overly strident in my opinion anyway, given that our less than glittering recent record of signing L1-based attackers has, um, left its scars!

First season like many foreign players struggled with the pace and physicality of the league but settled in well after that. Last season he finished strong the season before was our best defender by far.

As for him being sold, stick your whinging in this thread 😉 http://www.onemoreinthetolly.com/Thread-Kroenke-Gazidis-Wenger-out

Don't be.

And yes, that's very understandable. I certainly don't trust Arsene like I used to in the transfer market.

His technique looks top notch. That cross was clever.

We could use a mid who can shoot from distance

A few games, a bit of reading around and you get the general idea on a player pretty clearly. Add to that our knowledge of how Arsene conducts business and its a fairly well informed prediction that if we sign this lad he's not going to come in and immediately take the league by storm. I don't think that could be classed as too big an assumption.

But you can be a good player and an excellent signing without taking the league by storm.

Well again he doesn't seem like a signing that would the sort of immediate impact most fans want to see in this window. The patience for players to develop is pretty much worn thin at this point. As is the patience for "decent" signings. We need quality and we need it immediately.

Seen him compared to Oscar by someone else too. I think he's the style of player we need but unless he's good enough to be a starter i don't want him.

Been called up by the French NT now

I think he looks interesting. It's only based on a few highlight reels though.

The most striking information in the blog is that he has one year left in his contract. That significantly increases his probability of being signed by us.
