We definitely should not be giving Sagna a new contract until he has proven he's still up to the level we require.

I don't really get the Sagna out stuff. I agree he's not been at his best the last few months, but I still think he's a really, really good right back. He just needs to tune his game slightly to compensate for age, and I'm certain he could have many more good seasons for us.

He'd cost too much for a full back, especially for a club like us.

have to add quality in all areas

This guy would suit us to a tee

He's dynamic. Top five rb in the world

As shit as Kyle walker is on the ball, it's clear to see the benefit from having blistering pace

I agree, our fullbacks get so much time and space in attack that it would be great if we had a player who could take advantage of it .

I find it quite repulsive how easily some of you guys want to confine Sagna to the scrap heap. Find it strange how you at the one hand can feel anger towards Nasri and RVP for wanting moves away when they stay injury free and perform to a high standard, and on the other hand want a player like Sagna out the door right away after a season where he has been worse than usual. We have a guy here who admittedly has struggled this season, but there are clearly reasons as to why, but other than that has been one of the top players in the world in his position for years. On top of that he has ALWAYS played with an extreme level of commitment and heart, and both Jenkinson and Bellerin are on record saying how he is actively helping them improve. To me - Sagna is one we should keep, for many reasons, regardless of whether we purchase another RB.

Well said.

Agreed.
His standards slipping could also, possibly, be attributed to a lack of real competition as Jenkinson is not a threat to his position.
I think we are seeing the opposite effect on Gibbs due to Monreal

Its bloody irritating that 99% of the crosses from Sagna hits the first man when he is always given so much space.

Gibbs on the other hand tend to overhit.

Piszczek would be a big improvement on Sagna in linking with midfield and Theo / CF?
Did he also play as a midfielder at one stage in his career?

Deliberate opposition tactics.
Gibbs gets closed down as they know he has the ability to break into the box whereas simple passing lanes are cut off for Sagna as they want him to launch that useless cross of his.
Wenger counters this, sometimes, by playing Cazorla in front of Gibbs but Theo in front of Sagna doesn't help as he doesn't bother making runs because he knows Sagna is incapable of making the pass.

Massive improvement

He's been an important part of Dortmund's title winning sides, it'd be silly not to sign him if he's available.

why would dortmund sell him? don't see this happening at all in an offseason where they are already losing goetze and lewandowski. i think sahin's loan spell ends in jan as well.

Sahin's loan stretches across one more season, I think. It's a really weird deal. Real basically gave him to Dortmund until his contract is up. I wonder what he ever did to Mourinho.

think youre right, i remember it being a 1.5 yr loan and they picked him up in jan, didnt they?

Sagna doesn't get alot of space. He plays on the right side on his tod.

Must be the champs league clouding judgement, but Piszczek is simply not that good. Definitely not better than a form Sagna; miles behind in fact.

Sagna does get a lot of time AND space on the ball. The problem is we never had anyone to get to the end of those crosses, plus having theo in front doesn't help his cause.

How's he doing? Any sign of him getting back to form?

Looked pretty good against Munich last week.

He's been pretty good for them as far as I can tell. Still seems to lack a bit of fitness though. I read an interview a few weeks ago where he seemed pretty bitter over his time in Liverpool. "Thank god I've left Brendan Rodgers" was the gist of it. 😆

Rodgers wanted him to play as a #10 apparently which I have to say is pretty weird. I wonder what things would have been like if he had chosen Arsenal instead.
