Rooney is past his best. Last season he was in awful shape physically and that affected his confidence and ability. His touch was clumsy, his passing wayward and he lacked the power to shrug off defenders that usually bought him time and space. He's a shadow to the Rooney of previous seasons, when he had the fire in his eyes, the aggression and sheer physical power. These days he clumsily struts around the pitch, constantly miss-controlling the football, falling on his arse, often losing the ball in many of his touches and only shows flashes of brilliance once in a while. That isn't worth his touted price tag or wages. He is showing a similar decline to what Arshavin experienced between 2010 - 2012.
The fact that some people think he would be a realistic signing for us just goes to show how far his stock has fallen. A peak Rooney would have had every top club in Europe surrounding old tr afford like Vultures, if he ever showed an inkling that he was unhappy.
