Rooney was extremely influential in United's title winning campaigns so it wouldn't have been easy to suddenly play second fiddle to Van Persie.
He ended two Arsenal runs, one in 2002 and another in 2004, but that shouldn't be enough to despise him the way some do.
He has played whatever position has been asked of him - midfield, winger, center forward and done them well.
I think buying him would make us proper contenders so it's obviously not happening.
