If it's a choice between Higuain or no one, would you take him? I ask because I reckon that's what we're looking at.

Nah, fuck him. We'll make top four with or without him. More important signings need to be made.

I feel that we did quite well given our resources to get the fourth place, last season. But, I won't bet on repeating it if we don't upgrade on Giroud.

It's a bit like the Wigan situation. They were a decent team under Bruce. Under Martinez, they kept losing good players and never replaced them with better options. Each year they started badly but pulled off a Houdini act to stay in the league. We're doing the same for the last two years. If we don't make serious improvements, this Champions League status won't last forever.

As long as nobody leaves, fourth place is more or less guaranteed next season in my humble opinion.

Your opinion is rarely humble.

I personally like Higuan, he is a definite improvement over Giroud. I also think he is far more ready than a Jovetic who will be another project. We really need to sign one of these strikers we have been linked to. Best case is Rooney but I doubt we are even in the chase.

I think so too

Mainly because we'd be settled and we'd not throw away the first two months of the season and because guys like Ramsey and the ox are only getting better

4th place trade off is:

  1. Youngsters might step up.
  2. Spurs likely to lose the one man in the one man team.

versus

  1. Liverpool looking good.
  2. We might not get so lucky with injuries this season.

I think 4th place is a good bet next season - but if we want any more than that, upgrading our strikers is the first & most important thing we need to do.

Agree with Asa, the game is built on scoring goals and not conceding them. Upgrade the ST and GK/CB/DM positions. Higuain, Bender, Begovic!

Indeed, good point Kurtz.

I don't understand why everyone is not more excited about the possibility of this transfer happen. I admit, I am very skeptical about this happening at all but if it does, this has to be one of the biggest signings we have made for a very long time.

One of my friends is a big Madrid fan and is always coming over to my house whenever Madrid is playing so I've seen a lot of him. He has a great touch, his finishing is probably as good as it gets with either his right or left and in a variety of different types of finish (not only tap ins), he's very fast and has that knack of being in the right place at the right time. Not really one to play on the wig but he's more than capable of cutting in from either wing. His link up play is decent but as a striker my main concern is scoring goals and he pretty much guarantees goals. My friend was telling my that since he made his debut in La Liga the only players who have scored more goals than him are Messi and Ronaldo despite playing a lot less minutes than every first choice striker in the league in that time. Haven't seen him do much in terms of headers but then again we're not really a long ball team although in the last season we seem to be resorting to long balls and crosses quite a bit compared to the past.

All in all I think he could well be a very important addition to the squad for me if true and I would much prefer him to Jovetic. I'd probably even prefer him to Rooney (without going into the whole former united player who is a scumbag talk) as he'd be better suited to a lone striker role and will get us more goals. For me Rooney is more effective playing off the striker in a free role and what we urgently need is a striker rather than another support striker. Don't get me wrong Rooney is a great player. I just feel that we need something different to what he can offer before looking at players with that kind of skill set.

I'll have to ask my friend for any good video links to show you what he's capable of because I honestly think he could be amazing for us.

By the way Dules, wouldn't "Getting Higgy with it" be a better title for this thread? Has turning twenty eleven made you lose touch with your hipness?

I'm twenty twelve now Loyan 😉

Hip? I wouldn't say I'm hip. Big klaus D is the hipster around here. He watches ligue quatre to relax

"Arsenal beat out Juve for Real Madrid striker"
In addition to solving a key need area, the above would be a strong signal to fans and other potential recruits. Nailing the Higuain deal down could be very helpful when we approach the likes of Bender or Gundogan.

Not really.

If they can keep Suarez and add into their squad they will be good. Don't forget they finished the season well with Sturridge Coutinho on fire.

--------Suarez
Coutinho-----Sturridge

That's a good front line, better than ours probably (thanks to suarez).

I don't actually know if they line up like that, I just presume that they do. Rodgers plays a 4-5-1?

Suarez looks certain to be leaving, even if he doesn't we're still quite a bit better than them. Every summer people talk about maybe Liverpool challenging us next year but it hasn't happened for quite a while now. They'd need a fairly massive investment to put them in the top 4.

No way Jose! We got fourth on the last day this season. Unless spurs weaken significantly there is no way anyone can guarantee us finishing fourth again.

They have finished the season strongly and if Suarez stays i see them challenging for Top 4.

We finished the season stronger.
