He's what we need if you want to play football the way you want it played, Bigs, but the way Wenger sets his team out, he would flop here.

You don't think we'd create enough for him?

@Ricky. Re: Hernandez: He's one of the sharpest, most dangerous strikers in the Premier League. His "all round" game may be wanting, but he's perfect for a team like United, who've always thrived on goalpoachers.

I never said he wasn't dangerous, but I was talking specifically to Tony, who I've seen put Hernandez in the same category as a striker like David Villa, because of his all-round game, which is ridiculous. He's a goal poacher, a good goal poacher at that, but he lacks real speed, strength, technique, awareness, and passing ability. He needs a strike partner who does all those things for him.

Where have I put him on Villa levels? If I did then I apologise but I seriously doubt it.

But Chicarito is better than Vela and arguably Chamakh. In fact I think he probably is in terms of eye for goal.

The list of attributes you put there are wrong imo. I believe he DOES have real awareness, passing ability and technique. Look at his goals. Off the top of my head, the goal against Valencia away was fantastic. He's strong and fast enough to handle the prem. Berbatov isn't particularly strong or speedy but you don't necessarily need to be that to be a great player.

Sorry mate but it is you who are way over the top here.

He looks pretty quick to me. I dont think he'd be too great in our system as a central striker though. He needs someone to play off of.

Le Bob scored a nice one for Villa.

Owen with a typical Owen goal. Giggs and Nani were brought on about 10 minutes ago. United's second team are diabolical. Tony you go way overboard about Hernandez, his all round game is so average, poor in fact, in some respects.

Not every player has to have this so called all round game. Strikers shoot and score and all professional footballers should be able to pass a ball. Chicarito can pass and move and get into spaces to score. So what if he needs a partner? Football is a team game. Chamakh needs a partner to score goals.

It's his smart off the ball movement, his pace in general and his determined, if slightly scrappy finishing that make him a worthwhile player. I don't think he has much else in his locker but it's enough, if it means you can get on the end of a Giggs pass the way he did today.

What does he have that Vela doesn't? Well a licence to play centrally for starters ...

Exactly, players like teams should play to their strengths.

He reminds me alot of Solksjaer. A very good, very natural finisher, but not enough else to his game to be considered a true top quality player. He's not big, he's not strong, he's not exceptionally quick, if he had those attributes along with his intelligent movement and finishing, he would be a very coveted striker - similar to Darren Bent or someone, even with his other limitations, but he doesn't have that, and along with the fact that everyone plays 4-3-3, with a lone striker, that has alot asked of him and the various departments of his game, is why I don't see him ever becoming a starting striker for a top club.

Solksjaer was a far better finisher than Andy Cole, for example, a much more intelligent footballer, too, but he didn't have Cole's pace or power, and so always played second fiddle. Hernandez will always be dropped for the big games because he lacks too much to play the one striker role that will be up for grabs, similar to Berbatov.

So, this Torres situation...£40M plus Anelka for a player who handed in a transfer request seems very good to me. They'll probably get another one or two players in with what's left over if everything moves quickly tomorrow. Opinions?

Great news for Liverpool, barring a miracle, Torres' was finished there anyway.

Anelka won't do much for Liverpool, won't even match Torres' recent performances/goals return imo, but he's still a good player. I'd be asking about Zhirkov, too, if I were the Scousers. Problem they have when trying to spend the money is everyone knows they have it.

True but they already know how much Charlie Adam is going to cost who I imagine is their next choice of signing. Maybe a youngster in there as well and they are laughing.

Laughing?

I would be disappointed to see a player of Torres's class leave Arsenal even for a lot of money. Sometimes money isn't everything.

I find it funny that he didn't really like Liverpool F.C. that much.

As much as I think Adam is a good player, I mean for Aston Villa, not Liverpool, not if they want to challenge at the very top again.

They need a top left back, a top centreback, a top class wide man and a top striker/partner for Suarez (depending on how the want to play) - £40M obviously won't get them close, but it's a start.

Tony - Torres was never going to regain his form at Liverpool, something wasn't right, he wanted out or something else was troubling him. Similar to Eduardo, who just badly needed the move to move on and kick start his career.

But sometimes players take to the big stage and Adam could do it.

Look at Drogba. If we had gone in for him when he was 25 (same age as Adam now) i'm sure you would be saying the same thing about him...not good enough for the Arsenal.

Don't know on Drogba, he had just had a monster season in France at that age. I probably would have been exaggerating about him on here, if it were around then. 🙂

I'm not saying Adam can't, he has impressed me alot in the little I've seen of him, but whether he can go to a team like Liverpool and become their main man - which is what a playing style like his requires to be really effective - I'm not so sure.

Not convinced Adam is a good enough athlete for a top club, but he's got one of the best left foots I've ever seen. His passing range is amazing.

Who's talking about money?

Their squad is threadbare and Torres' sale could be what they need to remedy that situation.

I just think people start to see him for what he is. This is a guy who, during his time at Atletico, made himself out to be the last guy with some integrity in football. He always talked about how much he loved the club and how he wanted to stay and win things with them. Football was about more than just a few huge european clubs. He was awarded with huge contracts and loved to bits by their fans as a consequence. Yet as soon as Liverpool tabled a decent bid he did everything in his power to leave, right when Atletico were enjoying their best football for fifty years and had made a bunch of high-profile signings to keep him happy. I haven't been able to take anything he's said since then seriously. He's been in it for the money and the fame from day one. He's repeated the same behaviour at Liverpool now. The reason he didn't leave in the summer had more to do with no one offering Pool enough money for him.

I reckon they could strengthen without the sale but yeah 40m quid is a good deal.

@Tim

Yeah the athletic thing is something i overlooked.
