It's not just all about taking Cesc out of the equation though is it?
That to me is becoming something of a cliche that overlooks the fact that we have Vermaelen back, Kos in the ascendancy, Theo getting into form, Gervinho for Nasri, Santos for Clichy.
I remember Cesc in his day playing cross field long passes to pick out van Persie.
He could operate excellently in this team and he could adapt to our current style of play.
He could easily feed Gervinho and Theo on the wings.
He was a pass master not just a limited tippy tappy merchant.
It's not all about Cesc being out of the equation...It's about AW coming to his senses after the ManU game, bringing in experienced players who are ready to work together, it's about a player like Kos who has another season under his belt, new players really wanting to prove themselves and not just go along for the ride. Maybe there's a psychological component which has disappeared now that Cesc is gone, players not relying on the man. There are hungry players like Arteta and TV and RVP.
And Cesc chose to go south, so if he had stayed, would Arteta, Santos, Gerv, Per, would all of them be here? Who knows what the team would look like and what style the team would be playing...Ah, it's all moot...
Cesc is/was THE pass master, nobody can take anything away from him and his time at the Arsenal. One of my favorite memories is the goal he scored at AC Milan and his celebration. That was powerful.
