From that article:

Arsenal finally appear to be doing their main business early this year and Sanchez will have the advantage of starting pre-season training on July 24, when the players who were involved in the last-16 of the World Cup return to work.

So the Germans won't be back until August probably. We desperately need another centre back (and soon) if Vermaelen's off. None of last year's are even going to play the first few weeks of pre-season!
