Gervinho played there too, as has Walcott of course - but none of them ever gets an extended run.

The way we play has generally worked better with a taller linking player despite valid gripes over Giroud's mobility and touch.

Gervinho's run was pretty extended. He started four straight games there with everybody healthy. He was given an entirely legitimate chance to stake his claim as the team's #1 CF and I wouldn't be surprised if Alexis is granted the same opportunity.

Gervinho was given the opportunity because Giroud was positively terrible and completely out of sync with Premier League. He's a little better now. More stable if nothing else.

The fact remains that he was given a legitimate opportunity and not just given some token run-outs like Walcott has. The difference between 2012 Giroud and 2014 Giroud is pretty similar to the difference between 2012 Gervinho and 2014 Alexis.

We were one of the best teams in all of Europe in terms of breaking down parked bus defenses last season and the biggest reason for that is due to the high level of understanding in our pass-and-move football last season. For this reason, I don't think we're going to see any really radical changes in our front four this season. Additionally, Wenger has talked both last summer and this one about wanting a forward that can play "with or without" Giroud. I think he means "with or without" genuinely and I think Alexis is that guy. We'll see what happens.

I'd expect the usual experimentation, but I think Wenger will persist with a taller focal point up front in the end: it's actually a better setup for us so he'll gravitate back to it.

Theo is ready for that role I believe. Older, stronger, technically much more adept and we will be better for it.

I saw some posts on RAWK and as soon as I realised that a lot of them believe that Guillem Balagué has some kind of inside knowledge, I left them to their misery.

Guillem Balagué has about as much inside knowledge as my Nan. The guy is a complete hack.

While I think Ramsey and Vidal are almost too similar in playstyle... a Ramsey/Vidal midfield would just be too mint to pass up. I think the chances of us getting Vidal are quite slim but Sanchez seems like it may actually happen. Would be over the moon!

hard working and talented. although spending big money on sanchez and vidal shouldn't leave us empty handed, so jenks still has to go. now if we signed a super striker to go with those 2, i'd be fine with an U18 at right back.
