There are going to be enough big names on the move that ultimately a player like Jovetic, or whoever's left when the dust settles anyway, may not have a huge number of serious suitors.

That's my point. He's going to be available because Bayern, City, United, Real Madrid and Chelsea will be busy buying the readymade players. I'm not sure what people expect from this transfer window. We're not going to sign Cavani. We're not going to sign Lewandowski. We're not going to sign Falcao. Or Rooney. We're not signing anyone from that tier of strikers.

We can get someone like Dzeko though. He'll cost but he's a big upgrade.

Would you prefer him over Higuain, Michu, Benteke, Jovetic?

He is odds on to go to Dortmund anyway.

Get the best striker and a keeper we can afford, then concentrate on the bits in between depending on who's available and how much we have left.

Beautiful thanks Dules. Pretty much all of those are within our reach, right?

Dzeko would be nice. More productive but less potential. There's Michu too who would be good for 20 league goals next season. Buy either one of them and spend the rest of the money on the other four positions we need to improve.

Certainly.

Only two of them are worth considering, maybe Villa if he's cheap.

Klaus if our back 4 is so bad, then who would you suggest we bring in thats going to make a significant improvement?

Wenger has never bought a fully fledged striker from another PL club?

He's hardly ever bought anyone from another PL club.

What we talking, 3-4 players in a decade and a half?

Ye, the other 4 would just be a waste of money in my opinion.

Agreed. Quite anti signing Villa still. Has Spanish Arshavin written all over it.

I think Dzeko would be brilliant for us.

About that I'd say - just checking in case I'd overlooked someone.
For that reason alone I'd rule out Dzeko, Michu and Benteke (unless Villa go down).
And then for that reason I'd pencil in Remy.

Jagielka.

Would love for us to sign 2/3 PL players but as pointed out above we don't have a track record for doing that.

Jagielka would be a huge improvement for starters, yeah.

Definitely share the view that as a prority we need to start with a CF and work back through the spine of the team in terms of who we buy.

I like Jagielka but is he really going to be a big improvement on Mertesacker? I don't think so. I mean Klaus is saying our flanks are getting taken apart every game - well name me a right back out there who's going to defend a lot better than Sagna? Sounds a tad silly to me.
