If Bale ends up costing more than Fabregas it will be a disgrace.

It will show how our board just bent over and took it from Barca.

Fabregas had one club after him, he only wanted to join that club and even went on strike and took a pay cut to make it happen.

Bale will probably have the likes of R.Madrid, PSG, Man City & Man Utd after him which could create a bidding war. Exciting wide players or strikers will usually go for more money than central play makers. Love him or hate him but he is the probably the most exciting (and hyped) player in the league right now.

Plus he's a home grown player, that's another 10m+ if he goes local.

Don't really care as long as he does not end up at United, otherwise we're all in trouble.

I know, the board were in a very difficult position, and it's a completely different situation to Bale. But 29m euros is farcical, especially since he had like 4 years left on his contract or something like that.

Imagine, 24 year old Fabregas cost as much as 29 year old RVP 🙁 Adeboyor and Nasri even went to city for very similar fees.

Anyway, this thread is about Jovetic, I've taken it way off topic.

I wouldn't trust wiki or anyone for what Fabregas actually went for.

Still, £30 million is a shed load of money. Probably makes him one of the top 15-20 most expensive signing ever I would have thought.

Got nothing on Andy Carroll.

Was said at the time that Arsenal valued the Fabregas deal at £40m while Barcelona valued it at £35m. Figure the difference is what Fabregas had to give up in bonuses.

I had it in mind that it was in and around the £30m mark.
Wouldn't be surprised if they hadn't yet handed over all the money.
Wasn't there a suggestion of them not having paid fully for Song?

Errr.it wasn't 29m euros.

It was 29m pounds by barca. Barca pay another 3 million over 1 liga win and 1 CL win over 5 years. Cesc didn't claim his 4m loyalty clause and gave 1 million a year over his first contract to Arsenal. Arsenal also have a 50 percent sell on and first option and also Barcelona waived claims over Toral and Bellerin (Crucial because they did ask for compensation and got nearly 2m in the Merida case)

The compensation by Cesc of his payment is the difference between the 2 clubs values

A lot of money to pay for a bench warmer.

He's played more minutes in his first 2 seasons at Barca then his last 2 at Arsenal

Taken from this soccernet article, quotes are from Rosell: http://espnfc.com/news/story/_/id/943939/barca-agree-fee-for-fabregas?cc=5739

"It is not €40 million," he said on Sunday. "Barca will pay €29 million and we are very happy, because we said we would not pay more than 30 and we succeeded. On top of that, the variables are €5 million plus five others, but that will be discussed in more detail tomorrow.

This article from the barcelona site also mentions the fee: http://www.fcbarcelona.com/football/first-team/detail/article/season/2011-2012/bartomeu-thanks-cesc-for-his-efforts-to-come-to-barca

He explained that the transfer of Cesc closed at 29 million Euros, half to be paid now and the rest in September. His contract is for five years and the buyout clause has been set at 200 million Euros.

In addition there is an agreement with Arsenal that in the hypothetical case that Barça win two League titles and one Champions League title with Cesc’s participation, the English club would receive a bonus of 5 million Euros, two for each League title and one for the Champions League.

So it's 29m euros with a maximum of a 5m euro bonus, so 34m euros in the best case scenario which is 28.9m pounds sterling.

I didn't know about the rights on Toral and Bellerin though.

Ah I got the euro figures wrong. So Barca might be paying the 29-30 million. But Cesc is paying the 5m pounds and the loyalty bonus waived. He's mentioned it and If I can find the quote I will post it. Yeah the claims for players are also waived otherwise they would have gone in obviously once the merida one succeeded. The sell on and first option wenger I believe has commented on.

Hard to pick up minutes when you're injured.

Yeah 70 starts already in his Barcelona career and he's a benchwarmer?

Tongue in cheek cos he's on the bench for yet another big game as we speak.

To be fair, he does warm the bench in the biggest of matches. Like today.

Believe he's started most Clasicos and most of the knockout out round clashes last season and a few this.

He's not a key player for them, that much is clear. Cesc is one of the best footballers on the planet in his mid twenties, so its obviously unusual to see a player like that left out of any team when he's fit and in form, especially when it happens quite often in big games.

See the wording in Rossell's statement? Barca were determined to prove that they hadn't overpaid and Arsenal didn't give a shit. I don't know what Cesc went for but I definitely don't believe Barca either, even though that would appear to make little sense.
