Portman clearly does a variety of roles to avoid being typecast. Typical A-list behaviour given she can probably pick and choose her roles to a large extent. That's why she's mixing serious roles with action and romantic comedy etc.
Don't actually think she's a great actor myself. Her main attribute is her incredible classical looks, which obviously serve her well in a role like the ballerina in Black Swan.
I reckon Thor was one of the better Marvel movies, because of the fish-out-of-water humour after Thor arrives on earth, and the visual realisation of Asgard. Still pretty shit though, but well better than Iron Man 2. I've watched it twice which probably makes me one of few time-wasters who have 🙂
