I will be watching Hobo With a Shotgun. Perhaps not a date movie though 😉
I saw Fritz Lang's M (1931) the other night.
For the first time I understand the regard in which Lang is held. So many great shots, and when you consider the budget and technology he was working with, the cinematography, the suspense, the innovation, the prescient themes are all fairly amazing. Well worth a look even if you normally fall asleep during black and white 30s films.
The fact this film was made in pre-Holocaust Germany adds a sinister layer to its judiciously paranoiac view of the relationship between the state and the citizen.
Need hardly add it's a good performance from Peter Lorre as the child murderer.
