Deadwood: The Movie
Surprised to see just how much of a spent force Al was here. He was almost a complete non-entity plot wise, a brave choice considering how much he carried the original show. In turn, this very much turned out to be Bullock's movie. Out of McShane's shadow, Olyphant produces quite a powerful performance, and the more tempered version of Bullock serves him well. He's not grinding his teeth and clenching his fists through barely repressed fury anymore, yet still has that intimidating presence.
Elsewhere most secondary characters don't get a whole lot of time but some arcs still find resolution. Alma buying the claim in particular was a nice touch and a payoff to a character who in the show had none.
My main complaint would be how plot-wise this felt like a rehash of how the show ended back in season 3. You have Utter dying in place of Ellsworth and the story after goes much the same way, Hearst looking for Trixie and Bullock dragging him in jail by the ear for a futile, one night punishment. Apart from the brief mob justice in the street, the message regarding Hearst is the same, he is corporate evil, above the law and too powerful to be touched. Now I'm not asking for a silly, fan servicy ending to Hearts' arc like having Bullock kill him, that would be terrible. The way they handled him was the right way to go, but like I said it felt like a rehash of what we've already seen.
