Why does Hollywood have to remake everything?

Ága is an absolutely stunning film, I can't find fault with it. Its photography, subject matter, locations, performances, story and its treatment, and thematic richness all deserve the highest accolades.

Watched Cold Pursuit last night at the cinema. My God was that a horrible watch. I expected some kind of action thriler, ended up turining into a slapstick comedy of a film.

I'm very late to this realisation, but it just dawned on me that The Death of Stalin and Paddington 2 weren't nominated for anything at the Oscars. Bloody hell. This is why we can't have nice things.

What should they have been nominated for? Best picture is stacked this year because of class films such as Bohemian Rhapsody and Black Panther.

Haven't seen The Death of Stalin, but Paddington 2 is easily a better movie than Black Panther.

Paddington 2 is hideously underrated. I have no idea what's up either. Is it the number in he title? Would it have gotten more attention if they had used a sub-title? Did they fail to advertise the film in the US? It has to be something. It's legit one of the best films I've seen in years.

A lot of movies are underrated at the Oscars, I've stopped taking it seriously. I don't even think it's a demand that the voters watch all the movies in the categories they vote. Paddington got excellent reviews and is loved by the public, but there's so much politics involved with these awards that I just don't care anymore.

For sure. It's been that way for a very long time. I'm just surprised that they can't even get the most obvious ones right anymore. Even if you don't nominate Paddington 2 for Best Picture (and you really should), how do you put Ralph Breaks The Internet ahead of it in the animated category?

😆 Just watched Ralph Breaks the Internet yesterday actually. Was a decent enough movie, but never would've imagined that it was nominated. Then again, The Boss Baby was nominated last year over Lego Batman and other movies I actually haven't seen, but can't imagine not being better, such as Your Name and A Silent Voice. Apparently the rules for the animated category before were that only Academy members in the business of animated movies were eligible to vote, while now every single Academy members who wants to can do it.

It's really about the political process, isn't it? Who's picking up your movie.
I was in tears watching Moonlight, thinking how beautiful that movie was, and wondering if Brad Pitt and his high profile entourage don't back it, do we ever care? Maybe Clifford and his team weren't pushing it hard enough as an art movie, just something a little fun. Sad.

Both Paddington movies are great, but I agree, the second one is excellent. I really must see Death of Stalin.

death of stalin was great. thick of it meets the politburo

Yep, I thought it was genius. I was in tears at times. Probably my favourite thing that Iannucci has ever done.

Off the top of my head that's now Stellan Skarsgard, Timothee Chalamet, Dave Bautista, Rebecca Ferguson, Charlotte Rampling, Zendaya and Oscar Isaac announced.

Probably missed someone but that's getting to be quite a cast. Even seeing that list of people standing side by side would be entertaining.

And now Brolin and Momoa (although I don't particularly rate his acting he's a massive name at the moment) are confirmed as well.

That seems like a dodgy cast to me.

I'm always suspicious when they cast too many big names at once. It feels like the result often turns out like a Marvel film, where they write stand-around-in-group dialogues and every character contributes with like a sentence each just to get them all on the screen for a few seconds.

I don't know. Most of the names aren't really that big, and although opinions on Villeneuve's are split, that doesn't really sound like him.
