i actually enjoyed the first one the most of the 3, but that isn't saying much. you can tell jackson was just going through the motions with the hobbit trilogy really

I loathed them quite intensely, possibly because Tolkien was a big deal for me growing up so I had pretty strong feelings about how it should have been done.

Most of LotR was well put together and incorporated the visual concepts of beautiful art from Tolkien obsessives like Alan Lee and John Howe. Unfortunately The Hobbit is a completely different text, and they messed the adaptation up badly. It would've probably been better if an altogether different production team had worked on it.

This is just one of those times I had the neurotic reaction some overinvested Star Wars nerds are having to Last Jedi.

Not seen the first but I’m with Klaus actually, thought the first was far too cutesy without the quality in dialogue or cast to back that sort of approach up. Aside from the old bloke most of the dwarfs are forgettable too.

At least the second had a bit more suspense and splendour to it.

Yeah, the second one is my favourite. It had a lot of presence in the scenery. I really love the design of Lake Town. And I thought Smaug and the treasure chambers were really cool, even if the fight inside the mountain is ridiculous.

So Ladybird is pretty good, if you like that kind of film I'd recommend it. I'm not sure why there is so much hype for it though its pretty Noah Baumbach-y, obviously Gerwig learned a lot from him, but its not as good as his better work. I can't see it winning any Oscars anyway, Ronan is fine, Laurie Metcalf is good but neither of them do anything amazing.

I don't think so, at least not with the third one. That one is widely disliked, fans or not. Your reaction is probably closer to a normal person reacting to The Phantom Menace.

I think I would've enjoyed the trilogy if all three were as good as the second one, it was at least decent. The moment I realized I wouldn't like these movies was the dish washing scene in the first one. Felt like I was watching a Snow White sequel.

I have to agree with Nerdwinter here, all three were poor, okayish at some points of the second but the last was a complete mess up to the point were the title doesn't even make sense within the film's own concept.

Everyone hates things their own way! I definitely hated the whole trilogy for my own nerdy reasons going far beyond "oh great, another meandering, un-involving, un-dramatic lump of shite with all the lightness of touch of a bucket wheel excavator of the aggregate disposable income of the cinema-going public"

Finished the third, I thought it was the worst of the lot. What an utter mess of a movie. Also it’s a complete and utter dick move not the make the start of the third movie the end of the second. Not only is it a dick move, but I think it completely ruins the flow of the movie from the start. I genuinely cannot imagine going to the cinema and watching a film that starts in that manner.

Why did they make such a mess of this trilogy when LoTR was generally pretty well done?

Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri is another really enjoyable watch but there are a few too many small flaws to make it a great film IMO. Some top drawer performances from McDormand and Rockwell though.

Think it tried to bite off toooo much and couldn't. I didn't enjoy that movie after maybe the first half at most.

The Hobbit should have been 2 films only. It was definitely a cash grab to make 3.

I watched His Girl Friday again recently - Cary Grant and Rosalind Russell - made in 1940 and directed by Howard Hawks. That movie would have to have the most words spoken per minute in any movie ever. And it's great. There are some absolutely brilliant lines in there, none of which I can remember because they went by so fast. I think it's the effect the Coen Brothers were going for in another of my favourites - Intolerable Cruelty.

Because it should never have been a trilogy in the first place! Plus the Hobbit was never suppose to compete with the LoTR in terms of scale.

If they cut it down to one - possibly two - films, people would have enjoyed it a lot more but there was so much pointless shit to try and make an essentially simple story seem epic that they ignored what people liked about the Hobbit in the first place.

I, Tonya is great. Margot Robbie is brilliant in it. I didn't know much about the story bar the big incident so the whole thing was pretty fresh for me.

I watched a screener. Quality was decent. I read there are a couple of versions of a few of the oscar leaks. Try looking for the non-Xvids.
