Wind River was a really nasty, "trope-y" film, thought it was straight out of the gutter myself.

I just couldn't like it, it was badly off for mine. And I like pared-back, sweet looking thrillers.

Something like Cold In July is better, where it's a straighter hard-boiled piece instead of trying to present itself as having a social conscience.

I think anyone on here who's really into the thriller genre might enjoy this podcast by the way:

Burnsy: Cold in July was ridiculously entertaining. Have you seen Hap and Leonard by any chance? Just like Cold in July it's based on Joe R. Lansdale's books, and just like that film it's being written and produced by Jim Mickle and Nick Damici who might be the best writing duo in indie cinema at the moment.

Speaking of thrillers, I saw a young Klaus Daimler starring as the villain in Friedkin's To Live and Die in LA the other night. Quality film!

Figured you might not. Unfortunately/fortunately I can't bring myself to care about whether or not movie heroes would be heroes in real life.

Haven't seen any Bourne movies since the first trilogy, but Renner has had a few good roles lately.

Watched Thor. Well paced, funny throughout. Best of the Thor movies. Good job by Taika Waititi

Caché is my favorite Haneke. Been a long time.

Yeah, Caché is a beautifully balanced, dramatic and mysterious film. It's still high concept, but with less gimmickry than some of Haneke's other works.

Anchored by the perfect "Daniel Auteuil doing what Daniel Auteuil does" performance.

I do think it can be sensible bracketed with The Hunt, because of the sense of menace lurking beneath the veneer of social formations, because of the family elements, and because of the development and the ending.

Caché is just the French name of Hidden by the way (which is in French and shot in Paris). I feel like an idiot over-explaining that point but on the other hand.

I've seen Suburbicon, it was pretty underwhelming, though oddly enough I think it was too harshly reviewed by critics. But it has a mess of a script.

Watched Steve Jobs. I love biopics and 'true story' drams, but honestly, it felt like I'd get more depth out of reading his wiki page. Basing the entire film around the three product launches seems like a stupid idea too.

TWW aside I've really not been a fan of Sorkins work and don't really get the cult following.

Same here. Even Sportsnight is massively overrated IMO. Studio 60 and The Newsroom were absolutely awful. Social Network and Moneyball were passable. Steve Jobs was shite.
