Doesn't everyone hate Tom Hanks? I've hated him for absolutely ages. I think I snapped at some point during The Terminal, but it had been building for years.

Spielberg's done a lot of great films, Jurassic Park for example. When he's trying to talk about America I find him very unpalatable, because his politics are shit.

I don't mind Hanks. Absolutely detest Meryl Streep though, everything about her her stupid name face etc pisses me off. Then again I don't watch 600 films a day like you lot so I probably don't know her "classics"

Hanks is fine - prefer his early work but he's good value.

I've got bog standard sort of "Sight and Sound" film taste if anything, but I haven't been able to stand Hanks in a long time, and Spielberg opuses like Lincoln and Bridge of Spies are dreck to me.

I remember it fondly, since I went to it as a kid with my pocket money in 1989 or whenever it came out. From what I recall it was a solid star better than Beethoven at least.

Tom Hanks is one of the most overrated actors of all time. He's unbearable. As a person, he's likeable enough (his guest hosting of NPRs Wait Wait Don't Tell Me was pretty alright).

I don't like that he is basically some kind of purveyor of American history to the masses, though. He's a propagandist, at the producer level as well as in his acting roles.

I don't have any strong opinions about Hanks one way or the other, but anyone who trashtalks his performance in Joe Versus The Volcano is gonna have to fight me.

Joe Versus the Volcano was the only film that really understood the Hanks/Ryan phenomenon, and indeed what either were truly capable of.

I think Wind River is one of the best movies I've watched all year. Both the score and the visuals are both beautiful and haunting, and there's something strangely claustrophobic about the snowy, open fields. Gripping throughout.

Wind River wasn't launched over here and I find that incredibly frustrating.
