ooooh. much better than Battleship. i tried to watch Battleship a second time last weekend and lasted about 25 minutes. it's a proper horror. PR is much better. one aspect i would improve on PR is that it felt a bit too dim, like the Godzilla movies throughout. i always wonder to what extent directors are setting mood versus trying to mask horrible special effects when they do this

Neither was I but I still watched the shit out of that film in the 90s. We even took it with us on cassette tapes on vacation back home

Pacific Ram shouldn't even be compared to Battleship, it's way better. The way some people talk about it makes me feel that it's slightly overrated, but still a lot of fun. Will definitely watch the second one too.

It's a bit overrrated (and Charlie Hunnam is still one of the worst actors who has ever gotten a gig anywhere), but if you like japanese monster culture and Guillermo del Toro aesthetics you're going to love it.

I thought so too. I watched Trainspotting the night before I went to see T2 at the cinema. It didn't disappoint in any way at all.

Yeah, he's awful. 😆 Too bad that he's cast as King Arthur, was interested in how Guy Ritchie's cinematography would fit in a movie like that, although I fear it wouldn't be very good no matter the lead.

And speaking of del Toro's aesthetics, I hope him making the second Pacific Rim movie doesn't mean that his dark stop-motion version of Pinocchio is completely dead in the water.

Just the two of us, by the loos of things. I sat there, big grin on my face throughout and a tear in my eye at the end. The closing scene was a fantastic way to end the film, but I really loved the banter between Renton and Sick Boy. I honestly could have listened to the two of them, on their own, for two hours.

Can't wait to see it again.

Del Toro isn't involved in the sequel apparently, or at least he's not directing it. I think he's still attached as producer but he should have more time for new projects. Maybe we can get a second Hellboy sequel in the next few years too before Perlman gets way too old. I didn't think much of the first Hellboy, but Hellboy 2 was one of the most gorgeous films I've ever seen.

The great wall.-all those reports of white people in ancient china being weird are underrated. It's jarring. Otherwise some good action scenes. 6/10

Went to the cinema for the first time in ages for this one, what an utter disappointment.

Manchester by the Sea, La La Land and Silence in that order.

Or maybe I'd switch silence with La La land.

Watched The Stakelander yesterday. It's a sequel to Stake Land that came out a few years ago. Just like everything else Nick Damici and Jim Mickle make it was pretty great.

Caught 3 films recently on a flight.

X - Men Apoc. 5/10 - meh, moderately entertaining. All the X-Men movies feel like hard work. Deadpool deosnt really count.

War Dogs. 6/10 - not bad, I'm a fan of this sort of film but it lacked a punch.

Independence Day 2. 1/10 - complete trash, fails in almost every single criteria you can think of. Only gets a 1 because of Grace Huang and certainly not for her acting performance.
