As one of a team of 8 (or something). It's fairly obvious that Matthew Vaughn did the vast majority of heavy lifting for both that and days of future past. I'd even suggest that you can see Singer moments in the latter and they're fairly shitty.

I know I'm late to the party but I finally got to see Spotlight last night. Thoroughly enjoyed it and thought the performances were excellent.

Bit late to the party but Whiplash is an amazing film. One of the best I've seen in recent years.

Running a little late to the party on this one, but Citizen Kane is quite good. Thoroughly appreciated the acting, directing, screenwriting, production, soundtrack composition, foley work, and stunts.

Watched Keanu last night. One of the better Hollywood straight up comedies of recent years. Not quite a classic but still thoroughly enjoyable. Hope those guys keep making movies together.

Zootopia was really good. Thought it looked fairly ordinary, but when I saw the great reviews I decided to give it a shot. Both funny and with powerful themes.

Little late to the party but finally got around to watching Star Trek: into darkness. It's decent entertainment but I have to say I don't find it particularly funny or thrilling and the dialogue is pretty dull.

But it might just be me being bitter that they based the new film reboot on the original series rather than TNG.

Should be bitter over the fact that they rebooted to begin with instead of just doing their own thing. The Star Trek universe is built for parallel/disconnected storylines but these people have zero bloody imagination. There hasn't even been an honest attempt by Abrams and his merry band of hipsters to tell stories for any other reason than delivering a couple of cheap thrills in people who vaguely sense some form of familiarity in names and places that have become rooted in the broader surrounding culture.

Probably one of the reasons I didn't get anything from those films is because I didn't even have that familiarity with the characters having not watched the original series. But I completely agree, whole thing felt really shallow.

I liked those movies, the 2009 one is my favorite. I have never seen anything else Star Trek, so I don't know how they're supposed to be. I thought they were entertaining space action with quippy dialogue.

Watching Bourne Ultimatum. And it's making me think about some of my favorite action scenes in movies. A few off the top of my head

Bourne Utlimatum. Tangier sequence that starts with the Moroccan asset assassinating Daniels and injuring Bourne in the process. Continues with a bike chase through the streets, and then a foot chase in a market and along the town rooftops, culminating in a thrilling hand-to-hand combat in an apartment bathroom. Great pacing
Matrix lobby scene. You know the one. Neo goes commando on a bunch of agents.
Matrix Reloaded lobby fight scene that leads into a garage battle with the twins and then that epic highway chase where cars are destroyed and agents defy physics.

I'm sure you guys can think of other sequences you always look forward to seeing. Let's see if anyone picks a John Woo special. 😆

Your #1 is one of my favourites. I remember gasping with delight when they started trying to kill each other with books pulled off the shelf. The Greengrass action sequences in the second Bourne are underrated too.

The Bourne movies were the defining influence on Daniel Craig's comeback parkour chase scene in Casino Royale, that's a really exhilarating sequence.

The Raid would be the paragon for sheer adrenaline.

The Raid 2 is basically the first one on steroids if you haven't seen it. The hallway fight and the final one in Berandal might be my favorite if we combine them.

You should. 🙂 The plot is somewhat convoluted for such a film, but the action ridicules most of the stuff hollywood throws out there.
