King's Speech was excellent... Firth was fully deserved of his Globe (and probably the Oscar).. Rush was great as well

watched Stone tonight.. (Robert De Niro, Edward Norton)

dreadful.. a waste of my evening.. cant believe it got 5.8 out of 10 on IMDB.. i would have given it a 2 or 3 at the most

The two of them seem to only make turkeys now. Norton has troubles with the studios and DeNiro is just making money so he can party.

I agree. It's strange especially considering they are both really good actors. DeNiro is obviously great but Norton was really impressing me around the turn of the century. Shame to see that a movie with them both could be such a flop.

I think those two are just having trouble getting decent roles.

De Niro has really tarnished his brand with average comedies and family films, and Norton isn't good looking enough to compete as a "banker" in the fortysomething male actor marketplace. Norton's leading roles have been shit for some time - The Illusionist is one of the worst films around for example - and in some ways American History X, Fight Club and the like were blips in a career likely to be dominated by supporting / villain roles.

Norton was very good in Primal Fear.
The film itself was average enough but his performance was excellent, very convincing playing a character with two extremely different sides.

I quite liked 25th Hour, too.

Burn, do you really think De Niro has "tarnished his brand" by playing a few lighter roles, in comedy films? I haven't seen some of them, but he's generally gotten a good response to his comic acting. I have seen all three films in the "Meet the Parents" series and he's just about the best thing about the films. Extremely funny in parts.

loved that movie TBH.. Norton was fantastic.. American History X was also very good (but violent).. Italian Job was great, Illusionist was great..

I haven't seen everything listed but my choices would be:

Best picture: Inception
Best Director: David Fincher (No Chris Nolan!?)
Actress: Natalie Portman
Actor: Jeff Bridges
support actress: Hailee Steinfield (she was better than Portman but is in the wrong category)
Supporting actor: haven't seen enough of the candidates to say.

I'm 99% sure I heard Sky News say Nolan was nominated.

I love Jeff Bridges, but since he won it last year, and Colin Firth was SO good in The King's Speech - I want Colin to win. Haven't seen Black Swan, but it looks like my idea of a film I'd really hate. Geoffrey Rush was fantastic alongside Firth, as was Helena Bonham-Carter. Best picture is a close call between Inception and The King's Speech. Although I haven't seen 127 hours, so I'm not sure how that compares. Franco is up for best actor, too.

Yeah, I haven't seen a few on the lists, most notably The King's Speech and to be honest, I'm not going to watch it.

I felt the same reticience towards The Black Swan but I would have to recommend giving it a try, it will surprise you.

I will give it a go, probably not until it comes out on DVD, but it really does look like 2 hours of hell to me.

Ricky: guess I think De Niro has gone from being one of the most iconic actors of his generation to scrabbling around playing transvestite sky pirates in Stardust. It's a bit like Max Von Sydow's later career: average.

As for Norton he has been in some real tosh in the last decade.

To be honest, Burn, I've avoided quite a few of them, and only seen the ones I thought would be worth watching. Analyse This/That, Meet the Parents 1/2/3, I thought were quite good. You couldn't pay me enough to watch Stardust, I avoided What just Happened? And one or two others, too. So maybe I'm a little ignorant to how bad some of these films are?

Inception was the best film I saw last year, followed by Toy Story.

Black Swan was just annoying.

Director: David Fincher (Social Network)
Lead Actor: Colin Firth
Lead Actress: Natalie Portman
Supporting Actor: Geoffrey Rush (but I think Bale will win)
Supporting Actress: Amy Adams (Melissa Leo will probably win though)

Inception was decidedly not my favorite of the year (not even top 5), but i agree the Black Swan was a bit annoying for the first hour and a half of the movie.. the last 25 minutes were good though

i actually liked How to Train your Dragon better (would be my pick for animated film)

I just watched Mega Shark vs Crocosaurus. It was pretty awful. Some of the hype from trusted sources led me to believe that it was going to be similar to Sharktopus or perhaps even Frankenfish (which is almost as amazing as its title suggests) in quality. It wasn't, though. It was a very poor film. It wasn't even as good as its prequel, Mega Shark vs Giant Octopus.
