Yeah, Election 2 is also a very good film.

Similar basic plot but Lok vs Jimmy.

At some stage in the future Johnnie To's going to make an Election 3, apparently.

Relatedly on the HK-French-influenced-noir front, I've also heard John Woo wants to remake Melville's Le Samourai, which would be a pretty fascinating exercise.

Saw Seven Psychopaths last night. Good performances from Rockwell and Walken. Might give In Bruges a go now.

In Bruges is pretty decent. Has a very mixed reputation for some reason, but I liked it. Good role for Colin Farrell.

I saw the new Ken Loach, The Angel's Share, on Monday night.

Feel good factor is off the scale, but it's a nice, fun film. A comedy in the vein of Raining Stones or Riff Raff but less hard hitting than either, and with a small heist element.

Think In Bruges drags a bit.

Saw End of Watch last week; would recommend it highly. Acting is top notch throughout.

Also caught Painted Skin 2; it's like a hokey sci-fi channel movie with a decent budget. I watched it in two sittings and liked it, but would never recommend it to anybody.

I thought In Bruges was great. The Guard is pretty good too.

Purgatory's kind of like the in-betweeny one. You weren't really shit, but you weren't all that great either. Like Tottenham.

In Bruges wasn't bad, but if you're looking for a real hitman film I'd suggest Straight to Hell, Alex Cox's highlight from the late 80s. Joe Strumm3r is dynamite.

Mentioned it the other day but Fallen Angels is class too, speaking of hitman films. WKW:s best film by a mile.

The Hobbit is getting panned a bit by critics. too long, overuse of mediocre CGI, too many dwarves we don't care about, people finding it hard to adjust to 48 fps. Most of the criticisms aren't coming as a surprise. i'm guessing it doesn't hold up well as a standalone film but when taken with the next 2 it might be seen in a better light.
