The director's cut was certainly shit—but not as shit as that utter turd, Southland Tales! 🙂

Liked the original cut when I first saw it. The lack of exposition made it better, and I found the 80s reference points nostalgic (wasn't quite as often done then, either).

Looper is surprisingly good, I'd recommend it to anyone. Go see it.

i've never seen dirty dancing in its entirety, but that scene when swayze jumps off the stage and starts... i guess it's dancing... one of the funniest things i've ever seen in a film.

saw brazil a couple nights ago. really good, but i wasnt blown away by it like i was expecting. love the retrofuturistic dystopia though. visually compelling, like a combination of 12 monkeys and dark city (later films, i know).

I found Brazil a bit of a let down as well. It's so often cited by critics I've read as a landmark film, but it's parody Kafka thing didn't really blow my mind. Not saying it's bad, it's great, but perhaps not everything it's cracked up to be.

So I watched Looper.

I'd definitely recommend it, it's pretty good.

I'm not quite as sure as a lot of SF seems to be that our near future involves a regression to the social sphere of a Raymond Chandler novel, but hey, it's entertaining that the future has collapsed to various different versions of young Bogarts surrounded by strippers.

Loads of plot holes (though they're ones which can be explained away by a bit of sleight of hand - it doesn't subject its weak points to too much exposition) and a surprising plot that goes places you're not really expecting.

Joseph Gordon Levitt looks daft with a fake nose.

heard nothing but good things about looper, definitely will check it out.

finally got around to watching prometheus. luckily my expectations were already set low, because it was a hot mess of a film.

Wathed it on a flight. Unfortunately my expectations were set high 🙁

'hot mess' is pretty much the perfect way to describe it.

I watched Chernobyl Diaries after it so things only got worse.... it's definitely a 'horror' though not in the way they meant it.

Also finally got around to watching Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind. I initially refused to watch it despite being told it's great because it wasn't a comedy that I expect to see from Jim Carry... but they had an outdoor beach cinema thing going in the Maldives so I finally caved.

Was ok, but left wondering what the point of the film was other than to confuse the crap out of the wife.

Lawless is very good solid 8/10 film that brings 9/10 enjoyment. Havent seen looper, but a film buff i know puts looper on a par with batman as film of the year. I think its win - win.

Looper is an excellent sci-fic action, particularly the first half and the storyline stood up to scrutiny despite subject matter. I expected more from the second half though, could have been so much better.

Watched Looper in the end, thought it was pretty good, but not worth all the hype. Miles better than Batman though speedy 🙂
