What else... oh yeah, Greenberg. Haven't been able to say a bad word about Noah Baumbach since he co-wrote Life Aquatic and, thankfully, I haven't felt the need to either.

Kicking and Screaming is one of my favourite films.

Bless you, sir.

I just read that Pete Postlethwaite died yesterday. How sad. I watched The Town the other day and was thinking to myself that he looked worringly thin and badly aged for a 64 year old. Cancer is a son of a bitch.

Never got the big deal about the first either to be honest, it was just about decent.

Has anyone seen Wall-E? Saw the first 30 mins and stopped watching, awful.

Wall E changed completely after the first 30 minutes!
Like a different film.

Set in a permanently artificially sunny cruise spaceship populated by morbidly obese people communicating and viewing their world via monitors attached to the mini hover mobiles that whizzed them around because they were too large and out of condition to walk.

It featured some very inventive little robots too.

Great time to stop watching then 😃

Next someone is going to tell me The Good Shepherd was a completely different movie after the first bajillion hours where I stopped watching.

I say this all the time, but everyone who liked Wall-E (as well as those who didn't like it for that matter) really needs to see Silent Running. Masterful film.

Here's a trailer with some original music that Joan Baez wrote for it:

That's a good movie.

I guess you have to be into politics or concentrate hard to understand. It's no leave your brains out love movie.

I like those sorts of movies to be fair, but I just couldn't get into that at all. My main issue being that as you say it was hard work to follow, which is fine if it's interesting enough to keep you focused but it wasn't, the main plot was far too slow to unfold and the sidestories didn't do anything for me. I'm a big fan of both De Niro and Damon, so it was extra dissapointing. Might give it another chance one day though, if I have 3 hours to spare with absolutely nothing to do that is.

Decided to watch the rest of Wall-E on iplayer, wasn't too bad in the end.

couldnt bring myself to bother with Wall-E..

cant believe Pete Postlethwaite died.. i hadnt heard that.. always liked him.. RIP Kobayashi!

Replace cruise spaceship with office, and hover mobile with Blackberry and you've just described my office. Getting moved to the third floor too. Inconsiderate bastards

The view might be better from the third floor? 🙂

Just watched "Little Miss Sunshine" again - very funny film.

Good film, Y. Love Steve Carell in pretty much anything he's in, except for his last one; Dinner For Schmucks. Thought it was really rubbish

bugger, iI hadnt heard that either... rip roland, the only saving grace in jurassic park 2...

And like that...he was gone. 🙁

A real loss, the guy's played some amazing roles.

For me, he was brilliant in In The Name of the Father, but there have been so many...

Joe Pesci: "Let me ask you something... we Italians, we got our families, and we got the church; the Irish, they have the homeland, Jews their tradition; even the niggers, they got their music. What about you people, Mr. Wilson, what do you have?"

Matt Damon: "The United States of America. The rest of you are just visiting."

A really interesting view on the people of the United States. Who are Mr Wilson's people?

Very sad to hear about Pete Postlethwaite. Great energy as an actor, incredibly engaging.

Very good film. Beautifully crafted and a brilliant post-modern spin on the American dream.

Tried watching Pink Flamingos over Christmas and simply didn't see the point to it as a film. Is it only meant to shock? Got sick of wasting my time just over half-way through.

Going to download a couple of Gilliams soon. Loved 'Brazil' and have read some good things about 'Twelve Monkeys' and 'The Fisher King'.

I've just watched Black Swan. It's bloody good.

I've never seen that. Probably should watch it one of these days.

i would agree with that if you are only referring to the last 20-30 minutes.. thought the buildup was just too f*ing slow and annoying..

The pacing is all wrong, it's a mistake many directors make when tackling political/historical narratives. They aim for deep and interesting and you get slow and boring.

Seen recently:

Unstoppable which I enjoyed alot although I came away with a feeling that nothing actually happened in the film. Can't expect much more from a movie about a runaway train I suppose.

Tron; was alright.

The Secret in their Eyes again, can't recommend it highly enough. If you haven't seen it get downloading/down to hmv/blockbuster.

Only worth watching for Pete Postlethwaithe's performance which was moving, authentic and avoided the cliched, cloying sentimentality and simplistic drama of the rest of the film.

saw Inception tonight.. was decent.. i'll leave it at that.. visually stunning though

Really? I disagree with that sentiment. For the very first period (maybe 10 minutes) I was thinking "hmm ... this is a tad heavy-handed ... yes Darren, black and white, mirrors, good and evil" but then it sucked me right in.

I've been on a Bergman binge lately - I've watched The Virgin Spring, The Winter Light, and Wild Strawberries. All brilliant to be honest. Gutted after every single one, but particularly The Winter Light.

Oh and Herzog - Fitzcarraldo, Nosferatu : Fantom der Nacht, and Cobra Verde (all good in decreasing order of excellence).

And the new Todd Solondz movie, Life During Wartime. Bleakly funny, rather than humorously bleak. Pretty good all up.

And Blue Valentine. Totally realistic cinema. Great film, deserves praise. Great performance from Ryan Gosling.

after seeing the end, i understand why the build up was done the way it was done, but i guess i didnt really like her character and the meek, mousy person she is (i wanted to slap her throughout the movie) and i didnt really like Barbara Hershey's or Mila Kunis' characters either.. dont get me wrong, it was a well made movie, but i didnt enjoy it as much as the critics did...

Watching Catwoman on ITV2 and my god, it is awful.

Watched The Town last week. Thoroughly entertaining.

If you haven't seen Black Swan, I'd recommend giving it a look. I won't hype it up, but it's certainly a nice change from most of the movies at the cinema right now

I watched that one a few months ago too. I was going to change the channel but the remote was on the other end of the sofa so I basically had to sit through it. I don't think I fully understood how she got her abilities. A cat breathes on her corpse and all of a sudden she wakes up with ninja skills?

:hat: translation: I couldn't be bothered to get the remote when I saw Halle Berry prancing around in skimpy leather outfits.

watched Girl With the Dragon Tattoo tonight.. was pretty good.. i enjoyed it more than i enjoyed Inception..

Zico: Haha, more or less. Towards the end I still fell asleep though. That they managed to turn a half-naked Halle Berry into something only remotely more interesting to watch than paint dry is pretty telling for the film.

That movie was shocking. I quit halfway through.

Have you guys ever walked out of a movie theater. I have been tempted many times: Vanilla Sky, Twighlight: New Moon (please don't ask), but have only ever pulled the trigger on one movie: Hard Rain.

Something's Gotta Give is the last one I can remember walking out of. I am a bit more discriminating regarding what I'm actually willing to see nowadays, though - I've pretty much given up on the animated features, for one thing.

If I had seen Vanilla Sky at the cinema, I definitely would've bailed. What a fucking joke of a film (I believe that's USArsenal's cue to defend it - or was that someone else?)

haha, that's like me and Batman & Robin. Although there was a certain a morbid fascination. I really can't believe how bad B&R is - was watching it thinking it had to be some kind of Hollywood inside joke that I wasn't privy to, nobody could accidentally make a film that ridiculous. It's like a big budget remake of the 60s Batman film.

1969:

(I love how slowly Robin descends the ladder)

1997:

dont actually go to the theater much to see movies (i have a nice setup at home and i can't smoke in movie theaters).. the last (and only) movie i walked out of was when i was in high school (20 years ago, shut up you young'uns), and me and my girlfriend walked out of "Spaced Invaders"... me and my wife would have walked out of "The Pledge" when we saw it at the theater if we hadn't gotten to see it for free..

Burnsy - i didnt think Vanilla Sky was as bad as you and Zico did, but it wasnt my favorite movie of all time by any means

My word those Batman clips are terrible. So bad, that they're funny. Now I remember why I've barely watched any of the films pre-Batman Begins - which really was an amazing film, as was Dark Knight. How on earth do films like that stem from a series like that though? So far removed.

Holy sardines that was funny!

The 25 minutes that I managed to watch of Batman and Robin were easily the worst I've ever seen in a cinema.
Loads of people walked out.
It was so bad it was funny for about 5 minutes and after that it was just unbearable.
