I know what you mean about Christian Bale's performance in The Fighter, but I don't agree with you. I spent the first half of the film thinking he was well over the top, but by the end of it I was completely drawn in.

Warrior... on the other hand, yeah, I guess it was kind of "so what?" at the end there.

Couldn't disagree more. Thought he was absolutely exceptional.

Look, I'm not just trolling for the sake of it. Bale was great in it by certain lights, but I couldn't stop noticing that he was Acting, instead of acting. It didn't help that I didn't really like the movie, but that's a side issue.

It was an pretty typical Oscar "transformation" performance. Weight loss, uglification, insanity.

The original Rocky is really hard to top as a boxing flick, but as I said, I reckon Loach or Herzog could do it. Anyone else got any boxing film faves?

On that topic, has anyone seen Crying Fist? It's the best modern film about boxing that I've seen. Choi Min-sik gives his best performance to date too.

I've seen that clip of 'Dicky' (was that his name?) as well … didn't really change how I experienced the film, though, it was too late by then.

I find Bale a bit like that. He's a great Actor. He's brilliant in genre films like 3:10 to Yuma though.

I liked the trailer a lot, but like any 'auteur' you'd have to say that Luhrmann doesn't direct, he Luhrmannises.

The party spectacle looks like the same scene from R+J updated for today, the dodgy U2 cover is pure Baz as well. Cast looking great though.

I like Daniel Craig as Bond too but I agree Tony, I could see Clive Owen as a pretty good Bond.

Saw Tintin in 3D last night. It's pretty well done. I used to like the comics/books when I was younger and I think it's better that it's animated. Apparently they initially wanted to film it as live action but eventually decided animated would stay more true to the comics. Had already seen it in 2D a little while ago but got invited to a free 3D screening of it last night (girlfriend's sister's employer hired out Peter Jackson's cinema for staff + family and friends).

Timothy Dalton is the best ever Bond, end of story.

@Invis I'm a fan of the Tintin movie. I think they fucked up the 3D bit at the end with the cranes, and there's that silly bit where Tintin has an emotional crisis and they have a sort of Disney-esque 'but heroes never give up, Tintin!' moment, but otherwise it's great.
