I wonder what RvP thinks of this. He now makes 100k less a week than the player he essentially replaced as the main striker last season.

I think he's gone in the summer anyway. It's either that or spend most of his remaining years on the bench. He's got another season and a half left in the tank perhaps. He seems to be slowing down a bit physically and he's not good enough to play as a #10. He keeps the ball too long and doesn't have much vision. Rooney was the one to keep and United seem to realise it. He can function anywhere in the attack.

From Man Utds point of view it makes sense, might help them attract players if they finish out of Top 4 and having Rooney will mean they stand a good chance of getting back into the Top 4.

Their recent bad form has worked out well for Rooney, got himself a nice big contract he probably wasn't going to get anywhere else. Gets to stay in England as well.

There's no point, there's virtually nothing left to save by bringing someone new in at this stage of the season, fans have taken it fairly easy on Moyes too considering. They'll give him at least until the summer.
