There was a rumour that there would be a subscription model. They already have that for the xbox in america I think (?).

sounds like theyre trying to kill pre-owned. if you want to play a gme that has already been registered with someone elses profile, you have to pay some kind of unlock fee. cant find any deets on how much the fee would be. dammit, me and my mates always share single player games...

Buy a playstation. Same games, better exclusives, none of that rubbish (hopefully).

IMO I think that you can't jack up the price with game consoles, otherwise there won't be enough mass appeal and thus developers won't make games for it. MS is loaded however and thus can live with losses incurred by pricing lower.

It's a value proposition, that's why they put all of that other shit in there.

Of course they can (and do) jack up the price, especially on initial release.

Among other things it avoids casting a revenue shadow on all the old version consoles still in stock, and on the games that are still being released or developed, or in stock, for the older version of the console.

Yeah they do, but the cost isn't necessarily arbitrarily jacked up, the PS3 was sold at a loss for years because it was a genuinely expensive unit to manufacture.

Sony lost out on hardware and made their profit on software sales, the console itself was actually really expensive due to the young production process and the bluray components.

No way I'm willing to spend that much on something that isn't really revolutionary. Or am I wrong... will it significantly improve game play and graphics?

From yesterday, the revolutionary aspects are mostly for americans and have more to do with every form of media other than tv games.
