there is currently an absolute firestorm over EA-Maxis' Simcity shenanigans. Fully deserved by them cos frankly they so blatantly lied they're looking like absolute numpties every time somebody debunks an excuse they make to cover the previous debunked excuse.

edit: and it's a shame too cos the game is a nice bit of fun if not completely fail as a sim

I feel a bit sorry for the developers. From what I've read they've come up with a fairly ground-breaking microsim that just isn't particularly playable at city size.

If they've genuinely modelled behaviour at sim-person level and come up with something resembling city dynamics without too much faked up intervention, it's impressive, even if it doesn't seem to be.

there's a doco that came out last year called "indie game: the movie", charting the development cycles of some the blue chip indy XBLA games like Fez, Braid, and Super Meat Boy. Pretty interesting seeing the type of obsessive people behind some of these titles.

It's absolutely useless. The always online DRM is broken beyond belief and vital functions such as delivery of water and electricity are bugged to shit. But even worse, the cities are limited in size and completely dependent on a grid-like road structure to work. It will bore you out of your mind after a few hours (provided the servers won't kick you out or delete your save files).

It hasn't bored me so far. But the lack of depth and 'bugs' / counter-intuitive features will probably stop me at some point.

Been home sick from work ('flu) for the last couple of days so I clocked Uncharted 2.

I haven't played video games much for a few years, had no real idea that games that seamlessly cinematic existed. The story is cheesy as all hell, but in a good way. Very entertaining game for the most part—only dragged in a couple of seemingly endless shoot-em-up sessions.

I've got some sort of flu variant—"a flu" rather than "the flu". No treatment available, but I'm used to kicking this sort of thing fairly quickly. This has been going for three weeks plus now.

Had a blood test yesterday to see if I'm deficient in anything (other than common sense and good taste).

It's best in class by a long way. I have high hopes that The Last of Us will best it.

Thanks Cap. Just watched the promo material for that game—looks amazing, but extremely intense. But definitely amazing.
