Had such a cooling pad for my notebook a couple of years ago and I can't say I was pleased with that.
A lot comes down to how your notebook is designed when it comes to cooling, because as it was with mine, the graphics unit sat right in the middle of the notebook case, so the cooling pad had next to no effect (because the temperature of the grahpics unit was too high when I played e.g. Gothic 3 - the rest was fine).
I'd be cautious with that, because those pads are often the last resort and once you notebook starts to struggle with heat, there's only one place for it - the next bin.
