I don't know, I think it looks plastic and ridiculous and done to death. The trailer reminds me of Rage too, and that's not a good thing.

Never played Rage. Reminded me of Borderlands, which I loved. Never played any other Fallout game than Fallout 4, for that matter. The Fallout community seem to think that New Vegas is the best of the lot, so that + the Borderlands feel is what got me.

I'm aware of their reputation in the Fallout community. I thought New Vegas was the weakest of the new Fallout games on my part. It had some good ideas but it generally lacked the feel and the world exploration of Fallout 3 and 4. Strictly mechanically speaking I felt it had too much in common with rigid early 90s PC games... which is not that surprising really - that's exactly the kind of developer Obsidian are, and what they pride themselves on being.

I thought their Knights of the Old Republic sequel had the same issues. It took something that was a fascinating example of early organic world building and ended up making it a little less so by adding more stale menus and square systems that honestly no one asked for. Part of the reason they get so much cred is because guys like Chris Avellone were pivotal in creating the early Fallout games. Those games aren't half as good by today's standard as people think though.

Obsidian has made some brilliant titles. New Vegas and Pillars of Eternity are truly great games. I'll definitely keep an eye on The Outer Worlds.

Fallout 76 is not the turd it's being made out to be btw. It's been a bit of a bug fest but it's just great fun to play Fallout with friends.

I actually think most games can be fun with friends. I probably played 100+ hours of Ark: Survival Evolved because I had four friends to play it with, and that game was shit.

Playing with friends is great but it's not really an option for me anymore. Only time I play with friends is when we get together and we end up playing FIFA or something, so something like Fallout 76 or any other online centric game just doesn't appeal at all especially given how competitive it gets.

TBF I don't have any special love for NV over FO 3 or 4 personally but Obsidian were given a ridiculously short development window on NV so that they even managed to make it as good as it was is to their credit.

I'm interested in Outer Worlds but I remain sceptical of most games these days as the hype gets out of control very quickly.

I'm exactly the same. I play games for a couple of hours at the end of the night and I need to be able to somewhat relax doing it, I can't face the learning curve of online games like I used to.

Yeah but Civ 5 is great, right? the point was more that I spent many hours on a game with terrible game mechanics just because doing things with your friends generally is more fun. One of us being chased by a huge dinosaur luring it into a trap, one closing the gate behind it and two darting it with tranquilizer arrows. I enjoyed most of that time, but if you're looking at the game it's full of bugs, the developers don't keep their word, the graphics are bad and the community is toxic.

fwiw, FIFA 19 is one of the worst games i have ever played. ive been playing ultimate team since 2013 or 2014 and ive been fairly competitive, but this year's version is an atrocity as far as gameplay goes. so terrible

So I just accidentally traded in Dybala while doing an SBC in FUT. Insert room smashing gif here.

I swear, the last game/gamemode to bring me this much misery has to be when I used to play COD online with mates. I have no idea why I bother with ultimate team.

ultimate team game mode is addicting, especially for people like me who grew up collecting sports cards. the thrill of opening a pack, hoping to pull that one really amazing card.

ive spent a decent amount of money on the game since it came out, and i hate myself for it. i only play online modes (weekend league and division rivals), and i have about 200 more wins than losses, but the game brings me almost no joy at all. i regularly finish gold 1/elite 3 in WL, but after playing those 30 games, i dont want to even play anything else. and this year, division rivals is actually tougher than weekend league, so i basically play FUT 2 days a week and thats it.

the SBCs are a scam, and the pack odds are an even bigger scam. beyond that, the gameplay is absolutely infuriating this year.

That's awful. I've always feared that something like this would happen to me. I think the only reason I play FUT is because career mode (playing against AI) is terrible, while EA neglects every other online mode because they only make money from FUT.

I think Division Rivals is the reason I stopped playing as early as in October/November this year. When I play WL I usually finish gold 3 or 2, and this year I figured I'd only play divisions because I don't have time to play WL. This year I was stuck in div 5 for weeks because of the new point system. People also get relegated down there on purpose because they haven't made it rewarding to be in the higher divisions. Ten games to get relegated or promoted was fine, the new system is too slow for me.

yeah the people relegating themselves because you get better rewards in division 5 than division 2 really adds to the toxic mess
