pes had fifa licked on gameplay until 2011, then fifa took over right when social media exploded and really leveraged the online aspect at the perfect time. last year was the first time i felt pes began to bridge the gameplay gap again, and this year i think they've nosed ahead. i don't really bother with fut or online so i'm not particularly attached to fifa

On that topic, I finally gotten around to trying the FIFA 18 demo, the gameplay is very different. Read somewhere that they've slowed it down but it's actually much much quicker than 17. I'm guessing they'll tone down pace for the main game because right now pace is a huge factor. I like it though.

I like it too, but I can't get a handle on defending. I'm letting in a couple of stupid goals every match.

FIFA must make an insane amount of money from FUT and FIFA points. I cannot believe how much people spend on it. Some people have ridiculous squads already and the game isn't even officially out! The trail/web app has been out less than a day.

They're all mugs as far as I'm concerned.

the fifa 18 demo is really bland and arcadey. definitely sticking with pes this year.

I spent too much on it last year. I need to hold back this year because it doesn't make enough difference to how much you enjoy the game.

Kept upgrading all year, but I still don't think Messi or Neymar scored more than Giovinco.

Giovinco was utterly amazing when I first got him but oddly I never seemed to be able to get the best out of him after a while. Almost as if he'd aged.

The thing is you probably need to spend shit loads to actually get anything worthwhile out of it. I won't lie, having 1.5m to spend last year after packing Ronaldo in the monday packs was enormous fun and probably reignited my interest in FUT after not really bothering the year before and if there was a decent chance of packing him again maybe I'd spend a little, but the odds are very unfavorable.

One thing I will try to avoid this year is chopping and changing squads. It's a killer.

I stuck with basically the same squad all year last year. I upgraded players obviously but the core of the squad was always the same.

I loved Giovinco too, something about his runs I could never find with another striker. Shame he couldn't win a header to save his life.

3 hours into my trial, managed to scrape into division 9 in FUT. Have decided to go with a La Liga team this time. I have to say this version of FIFA is infinitely better than 17. I always assumed that FIFA 17 gameplay felt like it sucked because I sucked, but turns out it was actually a bit rubbish.

I read an early review that said the gameplay is slower and passing more difficult, which didn't sound particularly appealing to me, but it seems like the opposite to be honest. Passing seems a lot easier to get where you want it while games seems to be a lot more end to end.

Only just started playing The Journey on 17 as I just hadn't got around to it before. Quite enjoying it but does anyone know whether the 18 version picks up where you left off or does it start fresh as if you haven't done season 1? Usually trade last year's game in when I get the new one as I'm never going to play it again but want to finish this before I get rid of it.

Squad Battles quite a good mode on UT if you want some decent rewards. Legendary and certainly Ultimate are just insane on this version though. I got thumped 13-0 at my last attempt, had to play on world class which is a humiliating climbdown for someone who has adamently refused to play on anything other than legendary 🙁

Similar to you, I played the first one but couldn't find the time to see it through.

The second one is getting rave reviews so I'm going to have to complete the first one and work through the latest version soon. It does look like a great game tbf.

Yeah I know but do you have to have completed the FIFA 17 story before you can do it? As I've only just started it I'm not going to have finished it by the time the new game comes out and I probably won't go back to playing the old game again once I have the new one.

I assume you don't need to know about the first part allowing for people who are getting FIFA for the first time.

Just received an email saying that my SNES Mini has been shipped today. I expect it'll show up on Friday.

This'll do nicely until some tech magician goes and invents an actual FPGA-based Super Nintendo, like they did with Analogue Nt and the AVS when it came to NES.

Emulator on the nes mini was the best in the world, so if the snes mini comes with anything close (and it does), we'll be in for a treat. Snes was always my preferred console anyway.

(plus should be able to hack it to play every game ever released on day one)

First couple of games of FIFA 18 in and first impressions are good, but no immediate earth shattering changes of course. Maybe it's just me but the gameplay seems slightly slowed down and feels like it adds a bit more realism and is less arcade like if that make sense. Couldn't make players turn or do things at a speed that seems impossible. One nice touch of realism was an opposition player getting injured and staying down, then the ref stopped play when they got into my penalty area and restarted with a drop ball. Of course, I hoofed it away and they came straight back down my end and scored from the resulting play, but was still something I hadn't seen in a game before. Quick subs seems a nice touch too.

Edit: Of course still get the same cunts who quit online games at 85 minutes when they are losing. Still get awarded the win but would be nice to get it properly for a change!
