Got FIFA 12 for PC today. Like it on first look but definitely going to have to learn how to defend before I play anyone online. I've always been one of those "hold the press/tackle button until you win the ball" players so needless to say I found the new system impossible at first play. Played against Wigan (accidentally on world class which is a level I've never quite managed to get to on previous versions) and lost 9-1 barely making a tackle, and including conceding 3 penalties from attempted standing tackles! Changed it back to professional and played Swansea only losing 2-1. Definitely going to need a lot of practice at this new defending before I attempt to play anyone online!

I'm pretty shit at defending but the one thing I've learned is use the push/pull button where possible.

Only played the demo of Fifa 12, and really hate it. Find it frustrating as fuck to spend 7 months on Fifa 11 to get to a decent level, and then it is all down the drain because of this extremely stupid defensive "improvement". Contemplating not getting it at all tbh.

it's not perfect, but i've gotten used the defensive system. took at least 20-30 matches before i was comfortable with it.

it's strange though, when i play against united or city, i'm dominating them on world class, but when swansea and wolves come to town i get battered

fyi humble rex, you can change the defending back to Fifa 11 style in the options if you want

Read that you can do that but then for online play (which was pretty much all I did on Fifa 11 as I find it more fun than playing the computer where every game tends to be exactly the same) you have to use the new system so I don't see the point of changing it, unless you never want to play online of course. May aswell practice and perfect it on say semi-pro then move up to pro then try online. That's my plan anyway.

my strategy is to avoid controlling anyone in my back four, cos i usually do more harm than good, so i leave them 100% cpu controlled. i use no-one except my dm to close passing lanes, and use the "teammate press" button to hassle the ball carrier into a mistake without diving in. been working very well.

Managed a 3-0 win over Norwich last night, albeit on semi-pro, so after the disaster of my first match I'm starting to get the idea of how to tackle. Just need to get rid of my Fifa 11 mindset of holding the tackle button down and rushing straight in!

It feels surprisingly organic. In real life you'd rarely get a cb rushing everywhere on the pitch to tackle midfielders and wingers like in Fifa 11. I only control the back four when someone is in behind. They've made high pressing very difficult, but if you do it successfully the counter-attack feels realistically devastating.

I do the exact opposite. I get the DM pressing and I take control of a centre half and I use him to cut out through balls.

Started playing Pathologic again for a thing I'm doing. It's hands down the greatest game I've ever played.
