problem for me is this modern "realistic" duck and cover shit every fps game since 2005 has adopted. boring as shit. i don't play shooters for their realism.

walk some narrow corridor. some conveniently chest/hip high cover appears and then baddies attack you. generic and boring.

One of the reasons why I like Gears of War. Still loads of duck and cover, but there's plenty of open fighting to go along with it.

Didn't play the first, so got nothing to compare it to.

Still really enjoying it though - I'm about 40 hrs in.

Scanning planets for minerals. Reminds me of Star Control II, another one of the all time classics.

Star Control itself was right up there.

Any recommendations for PC games, folks?

My graphics card went kaput the other day so I bought a new one and it's a bit quicker so I ought to have broader options now. I picked up Far Cry 2 as first person shooters are generally my thing, but I can't be arsed with it. It's so fucking boring. I guess my patience and attention span is shortening as I get older because I just can't be arsed listening to a load of shite, clichéd dialogue voiced by Z list actors.

you could try mass effect 1 and 2 if you prefer shooters...

Thats my pet peeve with modern games. Just too much sitting back watching the story. If I wanted that I'd watch a fucking movie.

Depends which one.

The first one is quite poor.

But 2 and Brotherhood are absolutely fantastic. The developers really listened to the complaints gamers had from the first and completely revamped the whole game.

Don't get me wrong the free-running and mechanics in the first game are decent. But it's let down by the story and dodgy gaps between anything actually happening. A decent game in it's own right, but when compared to 2 and Brotherhood it gets blown out of the water.

It was a trailblazer, basically. It's pretty good at first, but it gets quite repetitive after a while, and there's not a lot of variety in the gameplay.

Good story though, I thought, it just takes too long. Definitely worth playing, and makes sense to play it before moving onto 2 and Brotherhood.

Need to get round to finishing AC2 and then pick up Brotherhood on the cheap.

As the boys have said 2 was a big upgrade on the first one. It basically took all the good stuff from the original, and added a tonne to it. Its kind of GTA in style with all the little story's and whatnot.

Nah. Not yet, anyway. The adverts haven't really done enough to let me know what the game is all about, and I'm too lazy to try and find out myself.

I got it, its slower than Rockstars other games but the story is excellent and the moods perfect, really sucks you in.

L.A Noire is good, something different to the usual. Not too far into it though, hope it doesn't get repetitive.

It only gets better. It's a Police Quest for the new generation. Excellent stuff.
