No not buttons, it's more the way the player turns depending on the direction you hold. For example, defender came tight to Suarez, so I just spun off him with my first touch, taking two of the defenders out of the equations and going through on goal. In the 360 version of FIFA 14 the only option would have been to hold it up or pass it first time.
Which reminds me, speed seems to be just right. Can finally run away from players with the likes of Suarez and Neymar. Makes games much more enjoyable. No doubt you'll get others moaning about people exploiting pace though.
