Great game for commutes: Settlers of Catan for the iPhone. It's such a great game that captures most of what makes the board game special. it's pricier than most iPhone games at $5, but it's well worth it. I'd say it's a better iPhone experience than even Angry Birds or the Moron Test :-)

Tried a 3ds today; it's brilliant.

Resisted the urge to buy one on the spot as there are reported issues with some of the units but am sitting here and seriously considering heading back to game and handing over my bank card.

So being about a year behind, I started out on Mass Effect 2 yesterday. Played for about an hour and a half, really started getting into it, then realised I hadn't downloaded the opening story-comic-type-thing that gives you the background and lets you set up your character.

Going to download it, and start again tonight.

Doh!

havent bought or played a computer game since FIFA 2008.. found that i just get tired of them too fast, so i dont bother with them anymore..

I've avoided RPGs since that Final Fantasy game on the PS2. I wasted almost a month of my life playing that. Normally stick to sports games - much easier to pick up and put down, and the Mrs gets a lot less cross!

Didn't you play the first one? I'd say it's worth playing that first, if nothing else you get to do an alien.

Been working my way through GTA 4, but have got to the point James alluded to when I was talking to him about it, just a bit fed up with so many missions, people ringing you all the time... So have knocked that on the head for a while and have returned to FIFA. Pro Evo will be going back to Game as soon as I can be bothered.

I also gave up on GTA4 eventually - not so much the storyline, I just couldn't get to grips with the controls, something about it just felt so joyless and wooden compared to the other games they've done in the past.

I give up on GTA4 too, missions were boring and repetitive, map was boring and repetitive, driving was boring compared to previous versions.

its been almost a week now, thought I'd get to spend some time over the bank holiday weekend online with black ops and F1 but noooo, some selfish turds decided to ruin it for us with their bullshit cause!

On GTA4, I get what you guys mean, it never felt fun. The vehicle physics for example took all the joy out of joyriding.

I'm starting to revisit the classics from the 90's US, the graphics are of course primitive but the game play is better.
In the early 90's computers were quite expensive and so games were targeted towards people in their 20's.
But now computers are quiet cheap the demographic of the gamer has expanded downward, so games have more eye candy but the game play is often more simple.

Big hair & short shorts- Bring back the early 90's I say!

XCOM and XCOM II I replayed about five years ago. Superb games. Never quite found anything to match them since in the same genre.

These were probably the old PC games I played the most between '90 and '95:

Warcraft
One Must Fall: 2097
Sim City 2000
Civilisation
XCOM 1 & 2
