I said before that there is no solution unless it begins with- First sack Wenger, sometimes the bounce that a new manger gives a team will create a honeymoon that gets them by, Steve Bould would caretake till the end of the season but I think its may be a bit early for him and so don't know if it would work.
But okay- I'll bite.
Of course money is a factor but people should know by now that its not really the crux of our problem, in short it's not the amount that was spent but how it was spend, I don't really want to naval gaze too much as the point of this thread is well- How do we dig ourselves out of this mess.
But all the calls to throw money at the problem are probably misdirected and too late, we have to go back to 2006 to find the root of it.
Then we had a strong team of experienced winners aging and preparing to pass on the baton, this is a normal regeneration that all teams must face and one that great managers perform seamlessly, so much so that it seeps into the fabric of the club and it all looks like a well oiled machine- think Liverpool in the 70's & 80's and Man Utd in the 90's & 00's.
We played a fast tempo lightening quick counter attacking game and of course we had the players to do this, but players get old like everyone but they could have been replaced like for like sans the experience which would come in time playing beside their mentors- But Wenger did't do that, in a short space of time he gutted and purged all experience and replaced them with kids, worse that that he radically changed our style to the slower more narrow short passing game we have all come to despise, of course this necessitated a change in the type of player- smaller more technical less physically robust so our injury list became a standing joke.
So much for the history lesson- What can we do about it now?
Well it's obvious- Like the money its how we play thats important, we much ditch the narrow short sideways passing, the defence must sit deeper as must the midfield- press work hard tighten the vice and strangle the opposition and rely on counter attacks and set pieces to score, creativity and flair must be sacrificed it's vitally important that we start winning (ugly if necessary) to get confidence and morale back.
As to who is to coach and motivate the players to do this I don't know thats Wengers problem but the above is a possible temporary solution.
Then when May arrives and we see where we stand a more permanent one may be sought.
