Some Arsenal fans do turn their nose up at unknown signings, Koscielny was hardly welcomed with open arms when he arrived.

Sure saying that we all want Messi was hyperbole and an exaggeration but the underlying point is there.

He did also admit the market in France isn't what it used to be and that our scouts are looking more in Germany and Spain. Isn't that what all of you wanted him to say?

It's a bit insulting to fans to say that we're waiting for him to sign Messi.
It's not unreasonable to expect that a club with our means can sign players who are not complete unknowns, if he is suggesting we have to then he'd better admit that his scouting network needs a revamp and an upgrade given the selection they've landed upon us in recent times.

Fair enough but that's not what I got from the interview. As for our scouting network , most of our players would be tearing it up at a club like Newcastle who's scouting policy in France has been lauded. I'm not trying to discredit them or anything but I just think some of the players they signed from France (excluding Ba and Cabaye) wouldn't stand out here at Arsenal because our expectations for our players are much higher.

Stop beating around the bush. The signings Wenger's made over the past few years, for the most part, have been pants.

Whether fans turn their nose up or not is not worthy of comment. If players do well, the fans will come around. He knows this better than any manager.

I find his point about scouting more interesting. But if we're not going to sign the best players or the best young players, is it any surprise that we're in the situation that we're in? I thought the whole point about not signing a David Villa is so that we could splurge on someone like Hazard. Not fucking Gervinho.

Fair enough, if you think the majority of our signings have been shit over the past few years then I won't argue with you.

When someone like Hazard costs 35 million pounds then there will be no splurging unfortunately.

The level of expectation is high arsene because you are one of the best paid managers in world football charging one of the highest ticket prices in the land and haven't won a trophy for 8 years.

Once you win something again then you can start complaining and discover talent otherwise stick to buying recognised, proven players rather than gambles or projects on the cheap

Why do people even bother to take what Wenger says so seriously?

Not like it really means one thing or the next, just empty soundbites for the press. We can't analyze every little thing he says because truth be told objectivity went out the window a long time ago where the boss is concerned. People now just take what he says and depending on what side of the fence they sit on, use it as a stick to beat him with.

That article can't be real, must be a journo having fun and trying to make him look bad. So all we want are names and won't tolerate promising players. He says that to Arsenal fans of all people. Ok so then why did he sign Gervinho, Santos, Park, Giroud, Chamakh, Squillaci, Kos, Vermaelen, Ade, etc. None of these were big names when he signed them, we gave them a chance because if Arsene Wenger feels they are good enough then we have to give them a chance. A Michu would have been no different than any of them in terms of the fans feelings towards him. Saying that would have been unacceptable to these big name only wanting fans at Arsenal is just a load of bullshit to try and cover his own failures. Does he really think we are that dumb? You made your name signing value players who turn into stars because you watch every league even the obscure ones and spot their talent, now you're spending 11m on Gervinho. And since you don't have deep knowledge of Spain you aren't expected to know of a guy who scored 15 la liga goals last season. So it's not your failing, it's the fault of the big name wanting fans who wouldn't have tolerated you signing that guy.

There is the established 20m bracket of players which we should be looking at, the ones that will come in and do a job straight away like Santi (who was a bargin)
