I see all of the reasons why you guys think wenger is past it, believe me I do but I can't spend my time being negative all the damned time, if there was ever a day when I thought we couldn't win a trophy.I would have to stop watching, going into a season believing we will do well is half the fun, no all the fun, I can't derive pleasure from expecting us to lose because wenger is an inept manager.

I know the past 8 years have been awful, fuck it I know. I just choose to believe so I can watch our games with an optinistic smile in my face, expecting us to win. I know it's naïve, I know it's stupid but fuck it I just choose to believe.

This is what it comes down to Kid, I don't know your exact age or when you became interested in football, but you surely couldn't have been very aware of what was happening in our glory years and how momentous it was, and you seek to compensate for this by being overly uncritically supportive.
As Y va said the rest of us are very aware of what he achieved 1997-2006 and thats the reason we can put things in context and you can't.

It's like us watching old films of the 1936 Olympics, sure we can read up on the historical context and quote stuff but as we weren't there we can never appreciate how fast Jessie Owens ran.

I was 4 when wenger first won the league, watched us regularly from 2002 and I appreciated every living second of it and its because of those days that I still hold hope wenger could get us back to the top.

It's the hope that keeps you alive.

I didn't imagine I could think worse of Wenger as manager than what I have been thinking these past five seasons....But I do....He has turned into an inflexible, tired, washed out man... Watching Arsenal play Norwich was so deja vu....So freaking ordinary....Where does the complacency come from...What the freak do they do on the training pitch...

It's a bit odd, we have a very good away record over the past 18 months which suggests that we've gone into those games with the right mindset. So why lose our mojo now?

'Wenger is an idiot' is a diguised thread for 'Wenger out'. But these concepts and thoughts have become so saturated recently that the thought of him actually leaving has diminished.

I must say I produced the first official 'real critique' thread on A-M which was titled 'Wenger must step up'. That was written in May 2007.

The fact that 5 and half years later we are still writing threads which highlight the same mistakes Wenger was making then speaks volumes.

And even if he stays for another 5 and half years down the line nothing will change.

The silver lining in this depressing episode is Wenger's successor will get a decent honeymoon period the longer he stays on, as the more his legacy is tarnished, the easier it is to replace him as there are fewer and fewer Squallys revering him

kid, you did a great job showing that wenger was an unbelievable manager until 2005. no one will disagree with you there.

19, 22, 10, 18, 4, 21, 16 - we all know the game has changed because of oil money, but then how has united won 4 league titles, 1 european cup, 3 league cups, 4 community shields and 1 fifa club world cup since 2005? they have no sugar daddy and more debt than us. why/how have we fallen so far behind them? for me, these 7 numbers are the most succinct indictment of wenger's decline as a manager since 2005.

In fairness, United are a juggernaut with a better manager, more ambitious board and a competitive advantage going back 20 years - hell, you see that even today when the shuffling corpses of Giggs and Scholes take to the field. Even between 98-2004 United won the league more times than we did - this isn't a slight against us, they were just able to blow 50m on players if they had to. Of course, we should measure ourselves against them but they're a formidable rival and it's not easy to do what they do.

The fact that Chelsea and City had to plough in the resources that they did to get to that level says it all, because United were never playing catch up to begin with (aside for the few years Mourinho was here). Meanwhile, we lost that competitive advantage in 2008 by systematically going against everything we'd done right early on in Wenger's career and allowing that complacency to seep in.

That's all about United. However, this:

Someone should post our yearly profits and match them with those numbers. I bet it shows the club could have done more to try and bridge that horrible gap.
